I think the head gasket is the only thing you need to replace for prophylaxis,
but it wouldn't hurt to measure
A couple months ago I had a similar problem solved by borrowing Fred's Speedy
Bleeder and I vowed that I would never bleed brakes again without a speedy
bleeder. Took 2 seconds with that almost magical tool...

I only pumped the pedal after all the bleeding, did not pump it to the
floor, partway maybe 3-4 times when it got hard. I took that to be
sucking fluid into the MC after the draining/bleeding/all new fluid.
I'll give another try bleeding, maybe fix up a pressure cap and give
that a try. Migh

I suspect it started few weeks ago when the 2½-year old lower rad hose blew,
though I did not notice the temp going to redline. Temp was headed up fast
when I shut it down.

I wonder if the gasket was letting go when you had the hose failure. If
combustion gas pressure was leaking into the cooling system it could easily
have ruptured the hose.

At Autozone the other day I noticed they had add on backup cams with a wireless
camera. Presumably the screen is something like a GPS screen where you could
remove the screen when the vehicle is parked to keep it from being stolen.

I believe there was some fiberglass like material on the front one on
my 300D, but not on the single piece one on the TE.
