CarFax maintenance records are spotty, at best, because they rely on service
providers to self report. I would want to see the owner’s service records and a
VMI. If a new engine was installed in 2000, it was likely done by a dealer
under a warranty or recall campaign, as the car

Ask Kaleb - the W210/E430 is a sleeper with the V8.

Totally agree, but even a car as “new” as a W211, or a W210 for that matter,
can have similar problems as they use EIS much like the GL500 does.
I love my ML550, but I do have reservations about it from that standpoint. That
being said, EIS issues are pretty rare, but when they do crop up
409,495/23= 17,800 miles/yr. Not unimaginable.
