Dragging rear at rest is probably the control valve, which is allowing the
base pressure to bleed off.
After you shut off the engine, open the SLS reservoir to watch the return
line outflow. If it keeps on dripping with no end until the rear sags, the
control valve is your culprit.
Out for a quick trip to Jacksonville, this afternoon it finally warmed
enough to justify AC.
Several miles later, pulled off to get a bite. When I accelerated away
from the first stop, multiple popping noises from the front of my E300...
not good! Let off the go pedal, noise went away, pulled
Haven't gotten anything like that. My problem is I'm not getting all the
list traffic. Looks like I get about 80%.

I believe the gasket is press fit into a channel. Sounds like yours has
come apart, time for a new gasket.
