Level is fine, doesn’t smell burnt.

I decided not to take their offer. If I had 10 more years to work, maybe. They
wanted 5 years minimum and I really want to retire for real in 3. Plus family
matters really made it hard to pull the trigger.

No shifting at all. Starts from stop in third. I checked level a couple of
weeks ago and it was SAT. I just finished supper so I’ll give it a look and a
smell.

Car knows you’re leaving. I’ll bet you were talking about skipping town while
you were in it. So it’s going to extract maximum pain from you until you’re
gone.
They know, man, they know.

Well no, limp mode is it’s stuck in 2nd which is usually a computer deal. You
can probably go 20-30 miles an hour maybe. I now notice he says his is in 3rd
and he can go 55.
Does it shift thru the gears up to 3rd or no shifting at all?

I thought "limp mode" meant you could literally only drive at 5 mph.
Hadn't realized it has other meanings.

Usually if it’s the common and easier to fix conductor plate issue you get a
check engine light. If you don’t get a check engine light and it’s not shifting
my experience is that it’s more likely a more serious mechanical issue with the
trans.

Could be a number of things. Could be the conductor plate issue, could be a
problem with the valve body itself, could be a problem with the computer, could
be a mechanical problem with the trans. Will Jane to hook it up to the MB
laptop to figure it out.

This $500 E300 I have was running like that, flaky shifting though the engine
seemed to have power. Throwing codes for EGR and glow plugs. Looked all that up
and the wonky shifting seemed to be associated with the EGR issue. I cleaned it
up but don’t have it back together again to see how it run
I tried stopping and trying to manually go through the gears and it’s all just
third gear. What causes it to go to limp home mode? And if there’s annoys me
enough I may let you come and take it home.

Sounds like you are limp home mode. Should I come haul it off?

So I come out from work, jump in my E300D, Drive 8 miles to the freeway, go to
merge on the freeway and I have is third gear suddenly. What the hell. Now I’m
driving the back roads home at 55 miles an hour and 3500 RPM. WTF just happened?
