I've noticed that, my search for "diesel" on craigslist brings up more big pickups than cars. I have NO excuse for having a diesel pickup, the fuel and maintenance costs are WAY beyond what I can ever justify. If they've got one tomorrow I might try it just to see but I can't imagine buying one. -Curt Date: Fri, 28 Nov 2008 13:42:41 -0800 From: Redghost <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT: test driving trucks To: Mercedes Discussion List Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed; delsp=yes Thanksgiving dinner table talk turned to trucks and BiL needing one, the issues, and prices v. consumer report scores. Re: [MBZ] OT: test driving trucks
Thought about it, we'll see what the prices are like. Tomorrow I want to go to another lot nearby that has a bunch more trucks. It looks like the F150 big v8 gets about the same mileage as my Dakota while the Ranger is a couple mpg better, the F150 with the small 8 is in the middle, Chevy seems to be a little better... Mostly I haven't looked at full size because while I require extended cab I don't want a moose of a vehicle. I'd really like a small truck like the Ranger or old S10. I don't require a bigger truck. Truth be told I'd like to be able to get about 150hp v6 that got 25 mpg but if I'm dreaming I'd also like a pony... -Curt --- On Fri, 11/28/08, R A Bennell <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: From: R A Bennell <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: RE: [MBZ] OT: test driving trucks To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], "Mercedes Discussion List" Date: Friday, November 28, 2008, 3:01 PM If I were you, I would look at some full sized trucks too. Pretty good deals on them right now and I think in most cases, the mileage difference is going to be minimal. Most of these smaller trucks are not all that great on gas. A bit more room in the cab is nice too. Even the crew cabs have a reasonable box. I have a F150 Supercrew and rarely have problems hauling even though the box is only about 5 1/2 feet. Of the 3 the Ford shifted into and out of 4wd the fastest too. According to fueleconomy.gov the Ford and Dodge are about the same for mileage while the Colorado is better. Its interesting because the Ford is by far the smallest but of course the 4.0l is the largest of the 3 engines but produces the least HP at 207 vs 210 for the 3.7 in the Dakota and 220hp for the 3.5 in the Colorado. I do think the Ranger makes its power lower in the band than the other two and the 5spd lets you work with it better. Wiki shows that today's Ranger is a very different truck than the one I drove in '94 and it shows, I think its a much more pleasant ride. -Curt --- On Fri, 11/28/08, John Robbins <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: From: John Robbins <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT: test driving trucks To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], "Mercedes Discussion List" Date: Friday, November 28, 2008, 2:09 PM Curt Raymond wrote: > We've got another dealership to hit tomorrow but so far I'm super > surprised to see the Ranger out in front. The 2.5 is probably pretty gutless. I'd try and drive one with the 4.0L... Supposedly they get about the same mileage. [MBZ] OT: test driving trucks
Angie and I went out and test drove some trucks today, my '96 Dakota has about had it... Started with an '04 Ranger, extended cab 5spd 4x4. Base model, interestingly has no back seat. Drives nice, lots of power. I like having the 5spd. He's about $2k over blue book and theres a little body damage. He offered me $2500 on my Dakota which is nice but still keeps him $1000 over blue book... Moved on to an '05 Dakota, also base model, 6cyl, auto, 4x4. 2 words, "no balls". Wouldn't spin the tires on wet pavement, either its got undocumented traction control (or a limited slip) or its just not that powerful. Learned a good lesson in torque, my '96 has ~200hp, the '05 has ~210hp but my '96 feels (even with 220,000 miles much more powerful and is faster. They're priced about $1000 over blue book but we didn't like the truck so its pretty well out of the running. This was also the least expensive of the 3. Finished with an '06 Chevy Colorado crew cab, 5 cyl, auto, crew cab. By far the nicest of the 3. An interesting thing about the Colorado which I had read about is that the paint comes off the buttons on the radio... The only downside I see on this one is that the crew cab makes for a short bed which will make me use the trailer more... They are priced exactly on blue book for this one. We've got another dealership to hit tomorrow but so far I'm super surprised to see the Ranger out in front. I'm thinking to go back and try an up model Ranger, although I like the 5spd its a 2 door and I'd like the 4 for the dog... I think the problem is my highschool girlfriend (who messed my mind up) had a Ranger and I've never forgiven Ford for that ;) -Curt ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
