You might want to look at that tranny then if you cant feel the shifts.
Soft shifts mean slipping which means wearing out the tranny. They
should be somewhat firm but not neck breaking firm.

I doubt you will live to regret buying a W124 300D 2.5t. Mine is one of
the finest cars I have driven in the past 4+ year. I drive mine between
80 and 85+ miles an hour on the interstate and still get 31 mpg-great
handling car as well.
