If the TO fried the turbo (which they do often) and it is still in there, MB will replace it and the turbo for free. DO NOT take it out before checking with MB -- it's much more expensive to do yourself! The catalyst in the trap comes apart, and the ceramic shrapnel produced by this

Power steering pump? Check fluid, if it's low pump will whine or if it's run with low fluid it will have air in the system which will make it whine. Usually adding fluid will self correct the air problem. In any case, easy to check. Bring it a little closer to the computer so I can listen to it

If the whine varies with engine load and not just engine speed, it's the turbo (which is normal on my old Volvo TD, sounds a great deal like a police siren a few blocks back). If it varies directly with engine speed, I'd suspect the alternator -- quite often a dead battery will kill and
