I have one EXACTLY like that in my house, its mounted above the basement stairs in about the least convenient place possible... I bought a couple new ones, mounted one about 8 feet from the old one but at the top of the stairs just inside the door where its handy to grab if the kitchen is on

Can't read the label. It is most likely a carbon tetrachloride fire extinguisher. They were banned about 1960. It is possible that it is a CO2, but those generally have a cone, and i didn't see any evidence of a cone. Carbon Tet used to be sold under the Carbona label and was also used
