It's been years though, so I don't know how relevant that is now.

My contact used to be m...@germanautoparts.com, Mark Davidson.

No idea if he's still there.

I emailed today, haven't heard anything since Thursday.

Went over to CarQuest and ordered all new rear brake components for my 190D.
They couldn't get a lower radiator hose which isn't tremendously surprising.
Dr Fatty seems to be out of business, buymbparts.net seems to be gone

So I called again this morning, a woman said someone would call me back. No
call back.

I called a little while ago, got an answering service woman who said she
could only pass the message on to Trent for him to call me.

I am starting to think I am out $150 and this guy is running some kind of
scam, or is incompetent, or has no clue, is in over his head, is
incapacitated, or some combination of all of the above.

I called NAPA to get a couple of things, will be there tomorrow, then will
give AutohausAZ a try per Kleb's experience.

No.

I suggest Gary @ http://www.buyeuroparts.com/

I have placed two orders with him in the last week. Both were priced very
competitively and arrived on time and correct as ordered. I received tracking
information within 24 hours of placing my order and was not charged until the
parts shipped.

Probably the best thing about Gary is his willingness to tell you he can't or
won't get an aftermarket part due to quality issues. One of the big problem
with the mass-market parts retailers is their propensity to use low quality
high margin (for them) parts from Asian supplier, such as URO. This is why you
see such deals from these places. Ask them who the part manufacturer is and
you'll understand why.

A good example of his willingness to forego a sale due to quality would be when
I talked to him about front brake rotors for my S500. I can get OE rotors for
$85/each from my local dealer. He can get OEM rotors for slightly less, maybe
$75/each. They are most likely the same, but understanding that I want
guaranteed quality on a brake or suspension part, he agreed that the OE part
was the better way to go in my case.

When I lost an oil cooler hose on my 1979 300SD, the hose itself was clearly

One thing to watch out for, especially with orders of more than one

That's why it takes me forever to get an order placed at Rockauto. It would help
if they'd tell you which warehouse was which instead of calling them A, B, C...

I finally took to putting every brand in my shopping cart at once and then
seeing what shipped from the same warehouses. For example, say I need a Mann or
Bosch fuel filter for the E320, and a need a brake hose for the UnderAchieva.
I add both fuel filters to my cart, and Bendix, Wagner, Delphi, Delco, and even
Dorman brakes hoses, and see which hose/filter pairs ship from the same place.

I don't think Randy ever retired, IIRC when he went back to the dealer he
effectively shuttered the business so as not to compete with his employer. He
still had his NOS stuff on eBay but he wasn't actively pursuing the parts

He is still very much alive. I see his posts on the Hitler list regularly.

No it is not a temper tantrum. It is a matter of sharing FACTS related to
someone many of us might find important in dealing with our cars, as was
Rusty. I think many of us were willing to support his efforts in this
business, expecting a similar level of service, or at least hoping for
such, based on initial comms in that regard.

I paid this guy for some basic parts. His person Kerri took the order and
took my money Friday a week ago. She was pleasant and had my info there.
Good enough.

I expected to receive the goods within a few days, she said she would try
to get the order in that Friday afternoon, barring that, Monday. Good
enough. No different from many other orders from Rusty over the years,
this guy is the new Rusty basically doing the same thing. No particular
reason to expect a different experience. He takes an order, ships what he
has or passes it on to Worldpac, whatever works.

On Friday morning I sent TF an email asking where the stuff was, thinking
a week was long enough to get stuff shipped out given my previous
experiences. He sent back a msg saying he would get back to me when he
got to the office later on. I heard nothing back on Friday.

I called 2X this morning asking what the story was. 2 different people
answered and said they would pass the msg along for him to call me back.
That was hours ago, no call. He has gone dark. Nice.

Others have bought stuff from this guy and have not received their orders,
and he is not responding to queries -- emails or phone calls. He has gone
dark on them owing them parts/money. Nice.

I did some research to see if I could find out the guy's story. I found
that info about the DUI. That suggests to me we might be dealing with
someone who has responsibility issues, in addition to my and others'
experiences with ordering parts, but you draw your own conclusions based
on that info and my/others' experiences, more FACTS. I found other info
too that is a bit concerning.

Now I have to try to figure out how to either get my stuff, or get my $150
back, or some combination of the 2. Its not like I am going destitute
over the $150 but it just really pisses me off.

I am upset because I had expected to get this car sorted last week then
drive to my daughter on the past weekend to give her this car, then take
the car she has to my son who now needs a car. This problem has given me
a larger headache and caused some other issues due to lack of
carry-through by this guy. Not the least having my son and my wife on my
ass to get the car deal sorted within a hard time constraint and other
life issues. So it is causing me more headache and likely more money to
get a plane ticket sorted. I have basically lost 10 days on this guy and
his lack of responsiveness having taken my money. That pisses me off too.

I am interested to know any other parts of the entire story if you, he, or
anyone else can share it with me. So far I have related FACTS as I know
them, but perhaps he has suffered some malady that prevents his attention
to business, or something. I am open to education in that regard and will
consider it, apologize, whatever.

I suggest that anyone else contemplating ordering stuff from this guy
might want to evaluate other alternatives given what I know to be FACTUAL
information about this guy, but, as always, YMMV and you are welcome to
spend your money however you want.

No it is not a temper tantrum. It is a matter of sharing FACTS related
to someone many of us might find important in dealing with our cars, as
was Rusty. I think many of us were willing to support his efforts in
this business, expecting a similar level of service, or at least hoping
for such, based on initial comms in that regard.

I paid this guy for some basic parts. His person Kerri took the order
and took my money Friday a week ago. She was pleasant and had my info
there. Good enough.

I expected to receive the goods within a few days, she said she would try
to get the order in that Friday afternoon, barring that, Monday. Good
enough. No different from many other orders from Rusty over the years,
this guy is the new Rusty basically doing the same thing. No
particular reason to expect a different experience. He takes an order,
ships what he has or passes it on to Worldpac, whatever works.

Nice.

Others have bought stuff from this guy and have not received their
orders, and he is not responding to queries -- emails or phone calls. He
has gone dark on them owing them parts/money.

Now I have to try to figure out how to either get my stuff, or get my
$150 back, or some combination of the 2. Its not like I am going
destitute over the $150 but it just really pisses me off.

That pisses me off
too.

I am interested to know any other parts of the entire story if you, he,
or anyone else can share it with me. So far I have related FACTS as I
know them, but perhaps he has suffered some malady that prevents his
attention to business, or something. I am open to education in that
regard and will consider it, apologize, whatever.

I suggest that anyone else contemplating ordering stuff from this guy
might want to evaluate other alternatives given what I know to be FACTUAL
information about this guy, but, as always, YMMV and you are welcome to
spend your money however you want.

This is the SDL? It's not such a good idea to start and idle a diesel

You probably will not be happy with the shipping time from AZ to the East

I have had good luck with Rock Auto, and Advance Auto Parts. If you use a

Autohaus Arizona www.autohausaz.com has been stellar over the years. Their
website gives you part numbers and is a snap to use. The owner/rep is
acessible most any time via their 800 number, and they ship promptly. If
you desperately need something in under a week you can pay their expedited
shipping cost and will still come out cheaper than the local dealer.

For dealer only parts, the Classic Center is usually the best route.

No it is not a temper tantrum. It is a matter of sharing FACTS related

Good enough. No different from many other orders from Rusty over the

particular reason to expect a different experience. He takes an order,

On Friday morning I sent TF an email asking where the stuff was,
thinking a week was long enough to get stuff shipped out given my

I did some research to see if I could find out the guy's story. I found
that info about the DUI. That suggests to me we might be dealing with
someone who has responsibility issues, in addition to my and others'
experiences with ordering parts, but you draw your own conclusions based
on that info and my/others' experiences, more FACTS. I found other info
too that is a bit concerning.

Now I have to try to figure out how to either get my stuff, or get my
$150 back, or some combination of the 2. Its not like I am going
destitute over the $150 but it just really pisses me off.

other life issues. So it is causing me more headache and likely more
money to get a plane ticket sorted. I have basically lost 10 days on
this guy and his lack of responsiveness having taken my money. That
pisses me off too.

I am interested to know any other parts of the entire story if you, he,
or anyone else can share it with me. So far I have related FACTS as I
know them, but perhaps he has suffered some malady that prevents his
attention to business, or something. I am open to education in that
regard and will consider it, apologize, whatever.

Not necessarily the best price for every part on every model, but overall
they can't be beat.If you're wanting a high value part then it is probably
agood idea to do some comparison shopping.

Randy went back to the stealership some years back, probably in the late
90s/early 2000s if I recall correctly. He had some major health issues and
left at some point in the future after that.

He has or had a large supply of NOS parts, which he started liquidating on eBay
some years back out of a warehouse in Goleta, where he is still located today
as far as I know.

I touch base with him from time to time. My needs are minimal enough that it
doesn't make a lot of logistical or financial sense to buy from a supplier in
California.

He's a good guy, very knowledgeable, and knows his customers well. He is
pretty active on the Hitler list, which I find curious, but I have never seen
any reference to his business or selling parts that I know of. It's possible
that some of the list residents there patronize him. I do not know.

In all honesty I thought Randy Steele had passed away. I must be
thinking of another parts guy who was popular on the mbz.org lists?

Allan

Dan Penoff d...@penoff.com writes:

Randy went back to the stealership some years back, probably in the late
90s/early 2000s if I recall correctly. He had some major health issues and
left at some point in the future after that.

He has or had a large supply of NOS parts, which he started liquidating on
eBay some years back out of a warehouse in Goleta, where he is still located
today as far as I know.

For dealer only parts, the Classic Center is usually the best route.

In my experience it's nearly impossible to beat Rockauto's list prices.
One thing to watch out for, especially with orders of more than one
thing, is that they will ship different parts from different locations
and hit you up with multiple shipping charges.

A couple of weeks ago I sent a list of parts I needed to Buymbparts
buymbpa...@gmail.com and we went back and forth a couple times, got
some prices on the stuff. This was just prices in the email, not the
pdf quote with part #s, etc. I had received in the past when I put in
 orders.

I called last Friday to put in the order, spoke to a woman Kerri who had
the emails, pulled up my info, we went over the list and I placed the
order. It was 3:30ish, she said she would try to get the order in so it
 might be shipped that afternoon.

I saw my bank acct had been debited on Friday last.

Today is a week later, still no parts.
