If you can get a mbz for scrap metal prices, it's worth looking for a 2400rpm generator head. Otherwise, why not use a Cummins 4bt from an old bread truck? With torque peak around 1600, they should be quite happy with a 4 pole generator.

If the Cummins were half as common to find for a reasonable price I would LOVE to use one. Would be the best choice for my M37 as well. Re: [MBZ] NY eBay parts SDL
Oh, yeah, we get that up here. For some reason 1986, maybe '87 too, was a problematic year for some w126s. I have seen 300SDLs and 300SEs with incredible rust issues, and peculiarly not the same rust issues as the earlier w126 cars. I can only assume Mercedes was kicking in some cost-saving change on the production line at the time, and it flew like a dodo when the cars aged. Stuff like that suspension failure, door rot (inside out) at the door handle openings, rotten front dress panels and inner fenders, even rusted thru fender tops. Yet the V8 cars don't seem to suffer the same way. But maybe that's because the diesels tend to accumulate mileage faster. Dunno. Mac. on 6/22/06 2:45 PM, Kaleb C.
