Re: [MBZ] OT: VW Golf TDI brakes

2015-09-25 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
My Indy did an oil change when he did the transmission and timing belt. Fuchs I
think...

Speaking of the transmission, the proper vw manual transmission oil is thin
like ATF, I'm getting a distinct grinding noise when I go into first if the car
is moving which my '98 with the same trans doesn't do. That has Redline MTL in
it. I'm thinking I'll put MTL in this car too and see if it clears up.

A dose of RedLine and an oil change quieted my TDI down quite a bit,
and smoothed it out, too.  I don't know why better oil would make the
engine run that much smoother, but I noticed within a dozen miles or so.

I use Mobil 1 T, it's readily available and most of the "rated" oils
are not.

I noticed that the engine in my 1978 300CD was quieter and ran much smoother
within a few miles after changing to M1 synthetic. This was the car that I
bought in Southern California and drove up to Oregon. My theory is that the
engine is noisier since it’s working harder when it isn’t turning as freely.
