Americans love Crocidile Dundee, because it is like a modern Davey
Crockett. Most Americans have never heard of Davey Crockett, but DO
know about Crocadile Dundee. The spirit of freedom and independence,
and the yearning for the same is in every human. Thus the popularity
of Dundee, Start Wars and the like.
It sounds like the OZ of old, where men are men and all citizens are
free and independent is even further down the UK/France sewer of
wimpification, PC and socialist rubbish than we are.

Dundee movies VERY popular. We really like Crocodile Dundee; even I

THIS is a knife.

Hi Alex

Finally got round to responding, apologies for the delay don't
know if this will get through due to email issues - as you all know.
There is definitely a gremlin in the system that H can't find.

I've never heard of the Outback steakhouse (emigrated here 22 years
ago from NZ) have been to Broken Hill where Mad Max Movies were
made.
Yes it was tragic what happened to Steve Irwin but in my opinion he
was the most irritating human being to come out of Oz.

Georgia (daughter) would like to know if any of you have heard of:
Dame Edna Everage or Norman Gunstan and
how popular were the Crocodile Dundee (Paul Hogan) Movies in the US.
The team have to do a skit at the FPS conference on Australia.

Have to agree why couldn't they have got an actual Aussie actor to
do the voice over for Outback Steakhouse commerical's there are
plenty of them in the US - that's shameful.

Fay

Yup. Outback Steakhouse, Steve Irwin, and the Mad Max movies
pretty
much sum up all the average American knows about Australia, I
think.

Having been to Oz and heard some really thick accents there,
especially in Tasmania, I wince every time an Outback commercial
comes
on the TV---couldn't they have gotten an actual Aussie actor to
do the
voiceover, instead of an American trying (and failing pitifully)
to do

the accent?

In the state of Vermont, you can carry a knife or a firearm in your pocket
unless you have 'criminal intent'. Alaska and Arizona have similar laws on the
books now, but I don't know exactly how they are worded.
Even those states maintain special disarmed victim zones where violent criminals
are assured that the law abiding victim are defenseless. We don't want to
interfere with the rights of robbers and murders to ply their trades, do we?

Hi Alex

Finally got round to responding, apologies for the delay don't know if
this will get through due to email issues - as you all know.

There is definitely a gremlin in the system that H can't find.

I've never heard of the Outback steakhouse (emigrated here 22 years ago
from NZ) have been to Broken Hill where Mad Max Movies were made.
Yes it was tragic what happened to Steve Irwin but in my opinion he was
the most irritating human being to come out of Oz.

Georgia (daughter) would like to know if any of you have heard of:
Dame Edna Everage or Norman Gunstan and
how popular were the Crocodile Dundee (Paul Hogan) Movies in the US.
The team have to do a skit at the FPS conference on Australia.

Have to agree why couldn't they have got an actual Aussie actor to do the
voice over for Outback Steakhouse commerical's there are plenty of them
in the US - that's shameful.

Fay

Yup. Outback Steakhouse, Steve Irwin, and the Mad Max movies pretty
much sum up all the average American knows about Australia, I think.

Having been to Oz and heard some really thick accents there,
especially in Tasmania, I wince every time an Outback commercial comes
on the TV---couldn't they have gotten an actual Aussie actor to do the
voiceover, instead of an American trying (and failing pitifully) to do
the accent?

know if this will get through due to email issues - as you all know.

Fay

Yup. Outback Steakhouse, Steve Irwin, and the Mad Max movies pretty
much sum up all the average American knows about Australia, I think.

Having been to Oz and heard some really thick accents there,
especially in Tasmania, I wince every time an Outback commercial comes
on the TV---couldn't they have gotten an actual Aussie actor to do the
voiceover, instead of an American trying (and failing pitifully) to do
the accent?

Can you still take a cardboard replica of a knife into an 'educational'
institution in the USA without getting arrested?

Good point. We have an inflatable knife that we thought could be used.

Interesting you should ask. Last weekend I was with a bunch of
high school and collage aged kids and made reference to Paul
Hogan, (That's not a knife. This is a knife!). Blank looks. I
said. That from the movie Crocodile Dundee. No one had heard
of it. So at least with that group it would not do so well. *smile*

Regarding Edna Everage or Noramn Gunston - I rather doubt the
average person in the USA has any clue who they are.

Thanks Phillip, that info helps enormously - Crocodile Dundee was made in the
80's - way before my children's time.
I guess my kids only know of the movies cos of the re runs on tv every year
around Christmas
I thought a few of you might of heard of Dame Edna, but suspected Norman
Gunstan would be a long shot.
