Not that weird. Just about every year you'll hear about some idiot losing a
hand clearing a blockage with the snowblower running and somebody else holding
the augur control on. Or they tie the control on so they can reach in.I don't
even reach in if its off, I've seen too many cases where I dislodge something

It's not weird to say that one should not clear a blockage with one's
hand. It is weird to say one should not clear a blockage with, give a
list that is a) foot, b) hand, c) head, d) all of the above and then
say the correct answer is d) all of the above. At least the way I
think. :-)

I think the one we drove today was 4.0l, it'd spin the tires like crazy if I
hammered it and dumped the clutch. Interestingly neither the Dakota nor the
Colorado would spin the tires even when I TRIED to make them. Neither claimed
to have traction control or a limited slip.

Of the 3 the Ford shifted into and out of 4wd the fastest too.

According to fueleconomy.gov the Ford and Dodge are about the same for mileage
while the Colorado is better. Its interesting because the Ford is by far the
smallest but of course the 4.0l is the largest of the 3 engines but produces
the least HP at 207 vs 210 for the 3.7 in the Dakota and 220hp for the 3.5 in
the Colorado. I do think the Ranger makes its power lower in the band than the
other two and the 5spd lets you work with it better.

Wiki shows that today's Ranger is a very different truck than the one I drove
in '94 and it shows, I think its a much more pleasant ride.

If I were you, I would look at some full sized trucks too. Pretty good deals on
them right now and I think in most
cases, the mileage difference is going to be minimal. Most of these smaller
trucks are not all that great on gas. A
bit more room in the cab is nice too. Even the crew cabs have a reasonable box.
I have a F150 Supercrew and rarely
have problems hauling even though the box is only about 5 1/2 feet. An 8 foot
sheet of plywood is about to the end
of the tailgate.

Re: [MBZ] OT: test driving trucks

2008-11-28 Thread Curt Raymond
Thought about it, we'll see what the prices are like. Tomorrow I want to go to
another lot nearby that has a bunch more trucks. It looks like the F150 big v8
gets about the same mileage as my Dakota while the Ranger is a couple mpg
better, the F150 with the small 8 is in the middle, Chevy seems to be a little
better...

Mostly I haven't looked at full size because while I require extended cab I
don't want a moose of a vehicle. I'd really like a small truck like the Ranger
or old S10. I don't require a bigger truck. Truth be told I'd like to be able
to get about 150hp v6 that got 25 mpg but if I'm dreaming I'd also like a
pony...

Seems that there is NO market for diesel trucks. Price of fuel is too

a glut of inventory. Prices of the trucks will be dropping to bargain
pricing in a few weeks, more if congress delays the bail out.

If I were you, I would look at some full sized trucks too. Pretty
good deals on them right now and I think in most
cases, the mileage difference is going to be minimal. Most of
these smaller trucks are not all that great on gas. A
bit more room in the cab is nice too. Even the crew cabs have a
reasonable box. I have a F150 Supercrew and rarely
have problems hauling even though the box is only about 5 1/2
feet. An 8 foot sheet of plywood is about to the end

of the tailgate.

I think the one we drove today was 4.0l, it'd spin the tires like
crazy if I hammered it and dumped the clutch.
Interestingly neither the Dakota nor the Colorado would spin the
tires even when I TRIED to make them. Neither

claimed to have traction control or a limited slip.

Of the 3 the Ford shifted into and out of 4wd the fastest too.

According to fueleconomy.gov the Ford and Dodge are about the same
for mileage while the Colorado is better. Its
interesting because the Ford is by far the smallest but of course
the 4.0l is the largest of the 3 engines but
produces the least HP at 207 vs 210 for the 3.7 in the Dakota and
220hp for the 3.5 in the Colorado. I do think the
Ranger makes its power lower in the band than the other two and
the 5spd lets you work with it better.

Wiki shows that today's Ranger is a very different truck than the
one I drove in '94 and it shows, I think its a

much more pleasant ride.

Supposedly

they get about the same mileage.

Re: [MBZ] OT: test driving trucks

2008-11-28 Thread R A Bennell
Hey, if they get cheap enough, I want one too. I just wish they were not all
3/4 ton trucks as I really don't need
the additional capacity all that much. I just want a nice diesel. I hear they
plan to produce smaller diesels in
half ton trucks in a year or two but it needs to be a real diesel and not a gas
V6 conversion.

It is more the trade in issue. Number of guys BiL works with have
tried to trade in 2005/2003 trucks for a new diesel and dealer will
not take them. Prices for the current trucks is great, but nobody can
get rid of his old one at a decent price to purchase.

where did you get the idea there is not a market for diesel trucks?
Maybe not with the dime store cowbow type, but the people who really
need them for work, no gas truck will get the job done like a diesel
one will. Around here, diesel trucks are still selling better than
 cars.

 Redghost wrote:

Seems that there is NO market for diesel trucks. Price of fuel is
too high and dealers are no longer accepting them on trade since
there is a glut of inventory. Prices of the trucks will be
dropping to bargain pricing in a few weeks, more if congress delays
 the bail out.

As long as diesel stays $1.00 or more per gallon than gasoline, I don't
see it making many inroads in the general purpose vehicle.

2008-11-28 Thread Curt Raymond
I've noticed that, my search for diesel on craigslist brings up more big
pickups than cars.
I have NO excuse for having a diesel pickup, the fuel and maintenance costs are
WAY beyond what I can ever justify. If they've got one tomorrow I might try it
just to see but I can't imagine buying one.

The Chevy 4.6L V8 is supposed to be awesome. It looks like it was
designed from scratch to meet today's emissions requirements without the
patchwork some of the current ones on the market do. It is also supposed
to have the same HP and torque that the 6.6L Duramax did when it was
first released to market.

Ed, when you reply to a message, just click Edit Subject right above
the box where you enter your message text.

Gmail is the greatest thing since sliced bread for keeping up with
mailing lists. I can follow the threads I want and delete the ones I
don't nearly as fast as I could when reading Usenet with trn back in
