OMG that is the most beautiful blue in this or any other world. If all it
needs is seats and a dash - and if the drive train is sound - that would be
a fun rolling restoration project.

squashed. See the big wrinkle at the base of the C pillar...

And my point was that there *were* models that came with the spring and it was
not aftermarket. Ever. For that matter, it was the original design.

That may be true for a minority of cars of that era, but AFAIK the standard
issue 108 sedans and 111 coupes of that era left the factory with rear axle
compensators.

BZZZT! WRONG!
The spring kit is NOT an “aftermarket cop out”. It was an option from Mercedes
for cars used in heavier service, such as taxis, and was delivered that way if
the car was ordered for that option. There were two different springs
available, one that was harder and increased
No way. The spring kit is an aftermarket cop out. BTW, I paid about $300
- $400 for my compensators, although granted they may be slightly priceire
now.

The spring kit "fix" is an abomination. For my 108 sedan and 111 coupes I
made sure to remove the springs and replace them with an OEM rear axle
compensator. Made a HUGE difference in ride and handling characteristics.
To paraphrase Dimitri, anyone who swaps in a rear axle spring kit is a
Ahh, I see that. I may try this out.
Thanks!

Yes. You can do a search then it gives you the option to turn on alerts. It is
not all that reliable though as I have happened across cars that had been
posted for a while that never showed up on an alert.

I would agree, but I’ve started watching it locally, as a couple of potential
prospects have come up and sold well around here. There was a 1969 250S that
allegedly had a bad transmission in it that sold for like $3500 a couple of
weeks ago. I would have been all over that had I seen it in
From watching cars on Facebook I see stuff that I figured would have sold quick
that sits for a long time. I’m not sure that is the best venue for selling
cars. At least not these sorts of cars.

I’ve seen a number that don’t. Unfortunately, the paint is usually shot or
they need some sort of bodywork for repairs.
I’m not worried about surface rust underneath, but when I see deep rust on the
frame rails, rocker panels or in the back of the wheel wells, especially if the
undercoating
Do you think any of these that still exist would have ‘some’ rust?

Not at their price. It’s a $6,000 car, maybe, with the stuff that’s goobered
up on it. That and the paint is pretty tired, but that’s not a deal breaker.
I pointed out that there was rust and the undercoating was peeling off as a
result and they said it wasn’t so. Whatever.

It was $12k. If you are serious and get some preliminary info I will go look at
it.

What was it originally?
You should go check it out and tell me if it’s rusty underneath. Then I can
offer them $7k.
