Re: [MBZ] Rounded drain plug success!
When you install the new drain plug, clean the threads in the pan [maybe even a blast of brake cleaner] then coat the plug threads with Never Seize. Next time you drain the oil, the plug will come out. I've been doing that trick with steel drain plugs that go into aluminum manual transmission cases for a long time with good success. Attaboy! I (on the other hand) use a Topsider (it's actually an "oil boy") all the time. When I had boats with inboard engines, a topsider-like device was the only sane way to change engine oil. Once, very long ago, I drained it into the bilge and I'll never do that again. -Original Message- From: Mercedes On Behalf Of Dimitri Seretakis via Mercedes Sent: Saturday, March 13, 2021 6:21 PM To: Mercedes Discussion List Cc: Dimitri Seretakis Subject: [MBZ] Rounded drain plug success! I used a 5 gallon fuel can and an old house tank vacuum cleaner for a make-shift "Topsider" that worked surprisingly well considering that the plastic 5 gallon can collapsed under the leaky vacuum. The hand pumped Topsider did not appeal to me, but you should be able to substitute an electric suction source for the hand pump and make it work for you.
