I'm a little confused by this.

I can see the eastern and northern parts of the state being affected by winter
weather, as they're somewhat mountainous. However, as I recall from a couple
of visits, Albuquerque is just high desert if that, with the mountains being
nearby.

Are you saying that they had that kind of snowfall in Albuquerque?

No, as our Governor said, "Someone may look at the winter in Albuquerque
or Santa Fe and say, ‘It doesn’t seem that bad ...'"

Albuquerque has not had that kind of snow. Look at http://nmroads.com/ --
the roads that are in red are the areas that got dumped on with snow.

Contrary to what seems reasonable, the lower areas got hit, because
that's where the storm was most intense. The snow, even here in
Albuquerque, was coming from the south because the low pressure area was
near the southwest corner of New Mexico and the counter-clockwise
rotation of the air pumped moisture from Mexico and the Pacific ocean
into the state.

Does that make more sense?

There is more coming, as this story from 0802 this morning says:

A civil emergency was declared Sunday morning as high winds and
blowing snow led to dangerous and life-threatening conditions in
eastern New Mexico, officials said.

Snow drifts of 6 to 10 feet and low visibility were reported in
Roosevelt and Quay counties. Wind gusts of up to 60 mph and
negative wind chills created hazardous travel conditions,
officials said.

Several motorists were stranded, and drivers were urged to stay
off the roads.

Things here in Albuquerque are pretty much shut down because of the snow
overnight. A local TV station's website says,

The winter storm has caused treacherous driving conditions across
the state. 178 accidents have been reported in Albuquerque. APD
is asking everyone to stay off the roads.

Interstate 40 is closed from Eubank all the way to the Texas
state line.

I-25 is closed at the Paseo del Norte flyover due to icy
conditions.

Police are asking drivers to exchange insurance information and
report minor accidents on Monday. A police officer will be sent
to all accidents where someone is injured.

Are those in Oklahoma seeing winter conditions as forecasted?

Drove from Conway, AR to Springdale in pouring rain, but no snow.

Helpful hint of the day: A couple quarts of Windex in your washer fluid
does a great job of cutting the oily spray one gets from a wet Interstate.

Nuther helpful A half cup of ammonia in a quart of water is a
whole lot cheaper and just as effective. If you can't live without
the blue, add blue food color to taste.

Good idea. But it's prone to freeze. I usually put some

2015-12-27 Thread Rich Thomas via Mercedes
High 70s here in the Lowcountry, I am not complaining except that the
skeeters have not looked at the calendar to see that it is winter.

We got hammered some years ago driving from Houston to Keystone, CO,
roads were closed up in NE NM, we found some other route that was back
roads, fairly nasty but made it OK. There had been a big snowstorm in
Denver, we got there just after it quit and getting through there was
slow-going as the roads had not really been cleared but we made it
through that. On the way back all the roads east of Denver were closed
due to a big storm and forecast huge snow, we went south then tried to
go east but all those roads were closed too. Stayed 2 nights in Pueblo,
all south and east was closed for the duration (22ft drifts in places)
so we headed back to Denver then east, road was pretty bad but open,
then south. Long trip home, I think I drove 26 hr straight.

Y'all have fun, I won't laugh at you because that might mean our 76F
turns into snow!

I've been using RainX orange and wonder about the wax on the windshield.
It also puts wax on the hood where the washer nozzles dribble, leaving a
