Re: [MBZ] how do you jack up your car in your garage?
Yeah it is just that the diff mounts are not engineered for that much load, so the rubber gets smashed. I put a 2x6 about 18" long on the floor jack pad, then put that under the car Jack point pad, running fore and aft. Jack it up. Stack lumber under both ends of the 2x6. Remove jack. Reverse order to let it down. On Thu, Feb 11, 2021, 12:27 PM OK Don via Mercedes wrote: > I always consider where the jack stands are going to go when deciding where > to jack it. I always consider where the jack stands are going to go when deciding where to jack it. Since the MB diff is mounted to the chassis, I never worried about using it. Re: [MBZ] how do you jack up your car in your garage?
Interesting that everyone appears to favour jacking under the diff etc. Not sure about old MB but so many carmakers tell you not to do that. With my old car, I have tried to stick with jacking using the tubular jack points in the rocker panels. Fortunately, I have not had to jack it up often but I have never really been sure where else it might be considered safe to use the jack. My car is solid so I can jack with the floor jack under the lift points if I want, but I wondered if that was a good idea too which is why I started thinking about making a means of lifting from the lift points with a floor jack rather than from under them. Re: [MBZ] how do you jack up your car in your garage?
In the garage I use a floor jack under a solid suspension or frame component. I don't lift on the rocker panels even at the jack points. Fortunately never need to jack up the car on the road. Re: [MBZ] how do you jack up your car in your garage?
Floor jack under either the differential, or the front subframe. The factory jack points on the cars I've had were so compromised they'd never support the car... I've got a Harbor Freight floor jack (not a trolley jack, those are not as good) and its excellent. I don't ever want to go back to life without a real floor jack. -Curt On Thursday, February 11, 2021, 12:08:34 PM EST, Randy Bennell via Mercedes wrote: Do you use the factory jack from the trunk, or do you use a floor jack and just jack under the jacking point holes in the rocker panels? I have been wondering about making a small hydraulic floor jack into a jack for the purpose by welding a bolt or other round metal pin onto the top of the jack cradle. I think the pin might need to be able to tilt a bit as the jack lifted the car but apart from that, it should be easy enough to do. Opinions? Same here, but almost always under the diff or under the front cross piece, so I get the entire axle off the ground. - Max Charleston SC On Thu, Feb 11, 2021 at 12:42 PM Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > I use a floor jack either under the diff or engine cross frame or jack > points depending on what I’m doing > > --FT > Sent from iPhone > > > On Feb 11, 2021, at 12:08 PM, Randy Bennell via Mercedes < > mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > > > > Do you use the factory jack from the trunk, or do you use a floor jack > and just jack under the jacking point holes in the rocker panels? > > > > I have been wondering about making a small hydraulic floor jack into a > jack for the purpose by welding a bolt or other round metal pin onto the > top of the jack cradle. > > > > I think the pin might need to be able to tilt a bit as the jack lifted > the car but apart from that, it should be easy enough to do. > > > > Opinions? > > > > Randy > > > > > > ___ > > http://www.okiebenz.com > > > > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com > > > > ___ > http://www.okiebenz.com > > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com > > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
