I'm looking for tips on polishing slices. I have a few NWA slices from Ebay

I get a smooth

Hi Darren,
I would consider 220 grit to still be pretty coarse for the purposes
of sanding chondrites. I always go to at least 400 and often 800.
For chondrites that are hard enough, you can even go to 1500 (the
coarsest polishing grade). But sanding also darkens the appearance

If you still go with sanding papers instead of grit, automobile supply
stores have wet/dry sanding papers that go up to 2,000 grit for very

Disagreement !
I also lay the sanding papers on a flat glass which has the same effect of
producing a flat surface on the sample. I do not have rounded edges on my
specimens.
Also it is wrong to move the face of the probe in circles.
You have to describe an 8 when moving the sample across the

Spirit's focus on sols 408 through 412 was the spectacular panorama from
Larry's Lookout. After completing that 4-sol effort, Spirit rolled to

Don't forget to clean your fingernails too, if you switch to the next higher

A single remaining grain from the coarser powder could disturb the result of

Hi and good evening list. What is lunar dry lake?By the mention of it, and
from the email I got, it must be a new meteorite found in nevada. Is this

Have you considered grits used for rock tumbling? They come in all the
mentioned grades and inexpensive.

Dear List, Bernd;
Is there any evidence that animals have licked meteorites for the
minerals in them? I know some humans that have tasted meteorite dust

Thanks for the good opportunity!

Hi Martin List,
I do know that there are many strange circumstances for shipments to
Germany. One method of shipping will eliminate a service (e.g.
insurance) offered with another shipping method. The best way to find
out is to check: http://www.usps.com
It's usually pretty accurate giving
I remember a couple of months back there was a discussion of confused
Sihkote-Alin individuals.
Well, recently, I bought a 7.7 gram Sihkote-Alin at a BIN of $5.00 that was
described as shrapnel,
but from the tiny photo looked as if it could be oriented. It arrived today,

Hello everyone,
I'm wondering...could the tektite in these photos be considered a taffy
core/stretch tektite, or would that be stretching it? (pun intended)

Hi Darren,
It is hard to tell if your SA is confused in the same way as the 'wheel' SAs
discussed earlier. In those pieces, there is a lipping around both major
surfaces.
Your piece is more dolphin shaped with lipping sections at several points on
various edges. I wonder if your piece fell
G'day Darren,
Nice piece! As Martin mentioned, probably not dual oriented but certainly
not what I'd call shrapnel either! For a good example of dual orientation
have a look at the little Taza individual on the page below. It may be small
but it's a beauty! ;-)
Don't tell me, Martin. Let me guess. The Big Windy And I'll
also venture a guess to the keyword, Wickenburg. Am I correct?

gave advise, by the
