Hello List,
How many 85% to 100% oriented meteorites do you think are found?
1 in 5000 for an iron meteorite
1 in 500 for a stone meteorite
Whats your best guess?
Thanks,

I see what you mean; you are not hallucinating the grain change! There is also
a slight color difference; could this be a breccia with big chunks, and the

i could be mistaken, but I also believe scientific literature

Hey Tim,
I don't know about 'fully' oriented, but according to Norton ~5% of
stony meteorites show 'some degree' of orientation, and that irons are

estimate that 28% of irons are oriented, but doesn't define the degree

Hi Bernd,
My thoughts exactly. I bought a slice from Michael and there were so
many chondrules and broken fragments in the matrix, it made me wonder
how it could be classified as an L6.

Very nice video, it is clear that there are likely
meteorites on the ground. However, this part of
Washington, Oregon, and Idaho is almost deserted, so
the odds of it being found are pretty low, unless it
hit a house or something, and if it had, we should
know by now.

Well, sonic booms are characteristic of meteors that sometimes produce
falls. But I don't see anything else in these reports to suggest that
any material necessarily reached the ground.
