The first time I heard of a 1 inch cube was on this list, somebody linked to
some old NASA images where an inch scale cube was used. So it is not entirely
without precedence.
Personally I'd only use a cm cube, but that's my choice, I see no problem with

Shawn, Matt,
If I'm not mistaken, the scale cube was invented specifically for the lunar
samples brought back by the Apollo missions.
Obviously, the idea behind using a scale cube is just that, to show the scale
of the object in the photograph.
I agree that for good scientific reasons, a

I may be mistaken, but has there be a standard set?
AFAIK, these are scale cubes, not standard cubes.
Now the example you cite is ambiguous. I have no way of knowing if it is a 1-cm

is my gripe. For a

much. I personally prefer the 1cm cubes but Australia

Hey all,
I typically use a 6 scale ruler with inches/centimeters in my photos. But

Richard and all,
I believe that one of the original uses was archaeology.
When an archaeologist would find an artifact he wanted to take pictures

would shot the north/south/east/west sides of the pot, turning the cube
This has been a good discussion.

I usually provide the information in listings and such, but after reading the

a diagonal angle and within the vein there is this electric metallic blue
