This is the Fitzwater Pass meteorite.
This area is a National Forest.
Am I correct in beliving that we can not even look there? What if one
were to trip over a meteorite in an area like this? Photograph it,
record the location, and try to get forest service officials interested?

Hi Thomas and List,
I think this might be one of those cases where the finder's story may
determine what the final outcome of the ownership question is. If he
claims that it was passed down through his family for a long time
before newer laws went into effect, it will be grand-fathered in. If

Hi All,
I checked for decaying satellites (due to the long duration of the
event)
but found no matches. I also checked the 3 nearest Doppler radars to
Albuquerque, but nothing obvious shows up. Assuming this is a meteoroid,
the entry angle was extremely shallow, which is bad news for trying to

At 6:00 a.m., yesterday, Tuesday September 21st, fishermen along the Deschutes
river near the Columbia river witness a large fireball travelling from the
South to the North. It broke into multiple pieces with numerous bursts and
disruptions. They saw glowing pieces moving beyond the fireballs.

Hey All,
Seems to be a lot of fireball action last night heading in a basic N-NW

Almost,
Ron, you with your lng experience should know, that there exist only one
single basic law:
The meteorite belongs always to the finder -

that if you have a lease on land at which time a meteorite lands on

As I understand, we all have the same rights, limited as they may be, on

cases local municipalities.

By chance, does it also have some fairly good sized holes or pits on
the outside of the stone? In the grey stuff that is on the outside is
there a sprinkling of small bits of dark brown material in it?

Hi Ron and all,
If this is going to be the case, if you get a permit to hunt federal
lands then you are being granted a lease to hunt and all material
should belong to the finder then. Perhaps this is an interpatation of
the law we can live with.

Hi Rob and all,
I've seen the data for this and know there are differences. With less
than 10 IIIF irons existing, the probability of two being found 100
miles apart from one another are just astronomical and nearly
impossible.
How many times have we seen big differences in the span of a
