While enjoying the ambience of LAX, I am reflecting on the great times I had
again this year in Tucson. Great friends, great food, great drink, great
rocks, great googlymoogly!

Gary,
It is you that brightened ALL of our days. Just yesterday a few of us were
talking about how you fill every room you enter with such positive energy and
joy. .
It was GREAT to see you and look forward to getting more of your positive
energy in the future.

IMHO Ted Bunch is always friendly. If you ask him an honest question he will go
out of his way to give you an answere along with references. He has so little
time I think it kind of pisses him off if you waste it. Worse thing you can ask
him is look at my rock he must get hundreds of look at my

Thanks for the kind words, Wendy and I very much enjoyed being there helping

There is more to the story. The bidding was moving along at $25 increments (or
was it 50, which it should have been at that price level) and I had a bid in at
850. Then, in comes a bid at 860. My immediate reaction was WTF - where did
this $10 increment come from? So, I entered a protest bid of

Dr Ted Bunch has done a bunch of stuff for meteorics and geology. Primitive
achondrites? Not so primative. Chondrules not so contrite. Irons with an irony.
I made a bitch fit a while back about the aging of meteoric material. Dr
Bunch may agree in some aspects that current aging is flawed. As

A long while ago, before I had a clue who Dr. Ted Bunch was, I was given his
name and contacted him with a question about a rock whose interior I thought
(at the time) resembled LA001 and would he be interested in seeing it?
Sure. Of course I sent it off, and being a newbe I had huge hopes,
Hello Richard M. and List,
Richard M. inquired:
I still haven't heard what was in the Mystery box. Write back!
The Tucson Show and Michael Blood Auction was a lot of fun... and MANY great
deals were had by the lucky high bidders, including the winner of my
Mystery Box benefitting the IMCA.
Thanks Greg! Wow...

Hello Richard M. and
Dear Meteorite List and Count Deiro,
I read with interest the posts regarding the 2011 Tucson Auction. I
have attended the Blood auction in past years and always enjoyed
myself. The Count's post seems to indicate that Michael's auction was
conducted poorly. I realize that you have emailed that it
Michael, All,
I'd like to point out that the above articles do not shed any light on
the professional demeanor of our own Count (Robert Deiro). To quote
one of the articles:
Robert Deiro, who started the auction business in 1976 and sold it to
his son in 1991, is estranged from his son. He's

photographing some more rare types o be listed later tonight.
I sent an e-mail to the NASA Johnson Space Center regarding the supposed
authentic Apollo moon rock that is not a meteorite with the link to that Ebay
auction.
Here is the first reply that I got:
Dear Steve Schoner:
Your query was forwarded to me. The rock for sale on eBay is/was not

Dear Steve Schoner:
Hi All,
Of course they deny that the rock is real. There is no reason for them to
acknowledge the loss of any material and if they were to confiscate it,
these pretenders would simply be encouraged. So ignore them and hope values
never get established.

Aloha Gary,
Mahalo nui loa na ho'olaule'a me la kaua. Hopefully, ka ua one day too!
This year, especially, (as in years past, i'm sure) many people stepped
forward to accomplish several goals at the show--Ruben's efforts (with
others) have probably set a standard for future shows events which
That was a great idea Greg, and I knew you'd have it filled with good stuff.
All of us IMCA members owe you a big thank you for your generosity
Same goes to Steve and Geoff for their fund raising entries. Bravo!
I only wish I'd have been sitting on a bigger cushion of cash with which to
bid.
Good grief!
All this post-auction bickering reminds me of the old adage, No good deed
goes unpunished. I had a great time at the auction, in spite of not winning
a single item, and I appreciate the efforts of all those who make it happen.
I don't go expecting the tightly run ship of a
Dear Mr. Oatman,
You have libeled me. The firm you refer to was sold by me to one of my son's in
1991. I am not now, nor have I ever been a member of this company, although
unfortunately it bears a name very similar to mine. I am Count Guido Roberto

Hear, hear Linton! Thank you for your voice of reason. I too got skunked in
the auction and could complain. But what would that accomplish? At the end of
the day, after all is said and done, I had a great time watching others winning
great pieces, sellers getting good prices, and everyone
Thank you Jason.
