Hi Chris and List,
Reading through the falls listed on your linked site reminded me of the
excitement this List had for the Carancas fall in 2007.
Does that crater still exist?
It seemed predictable at that time that the crater would quickly vanish from
erosion, become a cattle watering hol

Hello Everyone,
I feel like an idiot.
I know that trapped atmospheric gases have been found in some martian

gases had been incorporated in the rock at the time of formation. I always

Hi My name is Derek Yoost and I just rejoined the Meteorite List. Is there
a master list of all the hammer stones? I'm updating my list and I included
a column for the hammer stones. Thanks for your time, Derek.

In spite of the kerfuffles and sometimes egregious abrogations of the
etiquette of auctioneering decorum, this was still by far and away, the most
awesome meteorite auction I have ever vicariously (virtually) attended.

I agree with these statements. Next year, I will be a buyer instead of a

Hello All,
Carl2, you memory serves you right!
The color of LDG is affected by:
1) its very high silica content (almost pure silica: 98%). A decreasing silica
content
correlates with a gradual change of color from yellow over green towards
brown.

I bought a small piece of darkish green Libyan Desert Glass from a seller in

Isn't that the way auctions are supposed to be; some items sell for a low price

Hi Gary,
What a bummer about the damaged Middlesbrough cast, are the scratches
deep or could they be painted out?
Your right to big up Dee and David, they produce top quality casts and
the Middlesbrough really is top notch!
Hope your cast is not too badly damaged and is repairable.

Yes, some of the pieces went higher than expected. You can thank my brother,
Greg and a few other bidders for recognizing the value, bidding up and in some
cases winning stones like the Johnstown piece and Norton County which I have
seen sell for far below what they went for. These were the ex
As both Adam and Matt have commented, the prices were all over the place. Some
went WAY below what I had expected; a few went for more; a couple went VERY
high.
A couple of the absentee bidders had "deep pockets" so some bids went high that
way.

I will chime in on the prices. Like Adam stated, much fine NWA material sold
for pretty low prices, that Dhofar 700 slice was a killer. On the other hand,
the Norton Co pieces sold for 40+/g, the Worden was 300/g (I originally sold
pieces of this for 15-20/g in 2002)! Sylacauga sold for about

Yep, most of the material I entered went below my costs. A gorgeous 33.2 gram

I have one Unwa-xxx, that has four irisescence spots on the surface of the

I am going to guess this was caused by metal flecks close to the surface or
just
the crust it self turning to glass?
What is your thoughts on that.

Dear List Members,
Please take a look at some great auctions ending this evening. 54 different

Hi Richard,
