Louder sonic booms: Allegany County, MD
(Oct 4 Event)
According to Allegany County 9-1-1 officials at about 4:30 this
morning folks throughout Western Maryland awoke to a sonic boom created
by a meteorite that moved through the area. 12 calls were made to
Allegany County 9-1-1 beginning at about 4:22 am from Frostburg to
Oldtown.
Doug, I'm in Europe now and missed this. There were a few reports from ontario
so this may have been caught on the uwo fireball network. Heres a map of the
ams reports:
http://www.amsmeteors.org/fireball2/ams-event-map2.php?year=2011event_id=1126
Try contacting uwo and see if they caught it.
Mike,
I like space rocks. But not so much that I'm willing to see people get hurt or
killed for them. I admire your courage, but please be really careful out
there. Very glad you made it back okay.
Best,
Doug Ross

Thanks Mike H - kind of all over the place, but still consistent with
post [5]. Really sorry you missed this one, hurry back ;-). The image
actually shows the bolide illuminating a cloud way the heck from
North Carolina, through Virgina/WVA to Maryland!
Kindest wishes and signing off -

Beautiful olivines!
I especially like the oblong, narrow, finger-like olivine

Wishful thinking or real?...I am under the impression that

Dear list members,
David Weir writes on his website that the main mass (690 g) of Lodran from the
Museum of Geology in Calcutta (meteorite collection now probably in Indian
Museum, Calcutta ??) has been missing for some years. Does anyone have
additional information?
Was it stolen or lost?
OK, now this is serious

Now someone find the 'Points-Higginsville' meteorite!

Hello,
I will not be running 0.99 cents starting auctions anymore...most of the time
it will be set price or something different. I believe most meteorite dealers
are leaving the 0.99 cents auction thing behind. This is a GREAT Auction run,
with a lot of large specimens
ENJOY!
Thanks,

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if any list members from Europe or N. Africa were
successful in seeing the Draconid meteor shower (storm) this evening?
I'd love to hear any observations.
Thanks!

Hi Bob,
my esteemed meteorite buddy Matthias just reported here that skies were
overcast in South Germany, but I heard that there were some clear areas over
other parts of the country where observations could me made despite a
disturbing nearly full moon. More on this will surely be reported

Congrats to Mike Miller, after Steve S., for such perseverence in the field

Greetings Listees and Collectors!
Big News! This is one of my once a year BIG sales with BIG specimens
and one of a kind specimens. I did some big trades with a fellow
dealer or two, and I acquired some top-shelf specimens that are much
bigger and nicer than what I usually carry.
