It is too bad that Kalahari 009 was never officially
weighed before it was cut. It seems that the anonymous
owner could have at least given this record-breaking
stone the dignity of a certified weigh-in. Using the
term about 13.5 kilograms will never hold water in
the record books and history

view but none the less, a very important stone from a
scientific standpoint and deserves the very best
consideration including a formal weigh-in. I still do
not understand all of the secrecy surrounding it and

Kalahari 009. I do not see how it can be called a
Mare basalt. Everything I have read suggests that
Mare Basalts can be no older than 3.9 billion years.

ablation hole in it. I took the piece and watched the
full lunar eclipse through it. What an experience,
looking at the Moon through a piece of the Moon and an
eclipse to top it off.
I thought oxygen isotopes proved the GRA 06128/9
stones to be part of the Brachinite parent body so
calling them ungrouped seems wrong to me. Cool, but
not Earth-shattering by any means.

For saftey sakes, please do not cut the stone in
alcohol unless you have a sealed saw like a low-speed
Buehler designed for this kind of cutting. The
smallest of sparks can ignite pure ethyl alcohol and
you will not see it burning because
I agree with you, Michael. Bill Mason's additive is
great. It preserves the metal and rubber seals while
allowing the use of distilled water.
Alcohol is extremely harsh on a standard lapidary saw.
Not only is not the best coolant, it dissolves the
grease in the bearings, hardens rubber seals and

supplies a lot of bulk unclassified material and deals with one dealer in
particular who is known for selling by weight. Like every other Moroccan dealer
still in business, hehas raised his prices on everything
for you
to contact them in regards to previous statements you made that are in
error.
