A Harvard Physicist Is Racing to Prove This Meteorite Is an Alien Probe
March 23, 2023

The world’s top alien hunter is about to embark on his most ambitious—and
potentially history-making—mission yet. Harvard physicist Avi Loeb is
organizing a $1.5-million expedition to Papua New Guinea to search for
fragments of a very strange meteorite that impacted just off the coast of the
Pacific nation in 2014.

There’s compelling evidence that the half-meter-wide meteorite, called CNEOS1
2014-01-08, traveled from outside our solar system. And that it’s made of
extremely hard rock or metal—a material that’s hard and tough enough to prove
the meteorite isn’t a meteorite at all. Maybe it’s an alien probe.

It’s a long-shot effort. After years of work, Loeb and his team have, with a
big assist from the U.S. military, narrowed down CNEOS1 2014-01-08’s likely
impact zone to a square kilometer of the ocean floor, nearly two kilometers
underwater. But the fragments themselves are probably just a few millimeters in
size. It’s worse than looking for a needle in a haystack. Loeb is basically
preparing to look for big sand in a square-kilometer patch of small sand.

Here is what I was able to find from Dr. Fries information:

   - An image from the GOES 16 GLM which shows the bolide over Mexico.
   - Brief animation from NOAA weather radar from the KEPZ radar El Paso, NM.
It shows the rapidly spreading circular feature Dr. Fries describes.

The video form Tucson should make a mexico landing impossible. The fixed camera
is pointing south east and angled north east. The rock comes from the right and
crosses the rincón mountains. How is a Mexico trajectory possible? Only
possible direction based on that camera view is north to north east.

There was a daytime bolide over the AZ/NM/Mexico area this morning (16 Oct

Meteor Society is reporting it here:
https://fireball.amsmeteors.org/members/imo_view/event/2021/6611

At the time of this writing, the AMS is reporting a ground track just east of
Tucson. This event shows up clearly on both the GOES East and West satellite
data, in the Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) imagery, but with a ground
track that appears to be farther to the SE and in northern Mexico.

NOAA weather radar imagery from the KEPZ radar (El Paso, TX) reveals a striking
feature which appears near the location suggested by GLM and at the time
reported by GLM and eyewitness accounts.  This feature is a rapidly-spreading
circular feature centered on:

107.9987°W 30.7232°N

This feature appears as an expanding circle at low altitude, moving at 30 mph
outward in all directions following the time of the bolide.  This circular
signature may be birds scared into flight by the sonic boom. This same bird
feature is visible in radar data for the Monahans and Indian Butte meteorite
falls. No falling meteorites are obvious, but the event occurred at long range
from the radar and the weak radar signatures of falling meteorites may not
appear.

In summary, GLM, eyewitness, and weather radar data indicate that a meteorite
fall may have occurred in Mexico near the coordinates listed above.  This site
is populated and features a few farming communities, with the "El Chocolate"
dry lake bed to its south.  Conditions should be good for recovery of
meteorites.  Analysis of radar data will continue.

FB invented none of those things and does not have a monopoly (yet) on
any of them. There are plenty of other apps and venues that offer live
video, photos, etc. One can easily upload photos to a cloud account or
website and link to them on this List. One can easily host a live feed
on numerous streaming platforms and link to them here. That is how it
used to be done, before FB came along and sucked all the oxygen out of
the room.

For example, people would upload their Tucson or Ensisheim pics to
Photobucket, Flickr, or their website and then link them here. It just
involves a couple of extra clicks to bypass FB entirely for this
functionality.

Over the years, I have seen this list wax and wane with activity. I
hope it will recover from this recent dry spell. I would argue that
this list is not obsolete, just suffering from a case of widespread
psychosis that somehow Zuckerberg's playground is better than the
medium itself that created it.

"However, I am grateful that it is still available for those of us who cannot
> or will not change with the times. "

If the times are changing to an online world where Facebook, Amazon,
and Google control everything, then count me out. I'll fly my Luddite
flag proudly.

" I believe those members have valuable
> insight into meteorites and their history and I would sad to lose what could

Indeed, it would be sad. And that is exactly what FB and Zuck are
trying to do - put venues like this out of business and gobble up
their audiences. Oh, I grasp FB and how to use it. And I have an
active presence on some non-Facebook platforms. My apparent beef is
not with social media itself, it is with Facebook and it's policies.
Ello and Mastodon are better than FB all day long and twice on
sundays.

"At the end of the day, some will move to Facebook and join the rest of us,
> while others will stay here (until the number of people that are left here
> is so small that it is really just an archive). "

I was the rest of us. When I first joined FB in early 2009, there was
exactly one large-ish meteorite group and just one or two other
dealers actively selling in other groups outside that one. We were
pretty lonely for a while and I was one of those people (like you)
singing the praises of social media and Facebook. Then everybody
started coming to FB and the List started getting quieter and quieter.
And FB started getting crazier and crazier, and then the algorithms
kicked in, and then Zuck took off his mask and showed his true colors.
You wanna roll with that guy, despite knowing what he's about?

Well, as long as Art keeps the lights turned on (so to speak), I am
going to try to help keep this List going. All of the content I used
to post on FB will now go here - new fall reports, met bull updates,
research links, articles, original essays, *links* to photos, etc.

Art > Zuckerberg.

Met-List > Facebook.

No matter what ends up happening, the above two statements will always
remain true, even if FB gobbles up the online world and this list
becomes the Ozymandias of meteorite discussion.

Best regards and stay safe!

MikeG

How? I didn’t even receive any of these posts. The list is dead. It often takes
days for things to show up. Facebook I can show dozens of specimens instantly
to thousands of people. I can make them sold instantly. I can upload all the

[meteorite-list] New fall in Kenya

2020-05-01 Thread Michael Farmer via Meteorite-list
We have a large new fall in Kerinyaga state, Kerugoya Kenya. 24 April 2020
20:00 hours. Chondrite. White, at least 15-20 kg known. Sadly heavy rains began
the next afternoon and stones not recovered immediately are already exhibiting
heavy oxidation.
Save up your pennies folks. For a little background on how I got ahold of this
fall so fast. I saw the Kenya fall on Friday night Tucson time, barely 7 hours
after it happened in Kenya. I’ve been to Kenya 7 times, 3 for Thika fall in
2011 (60km from this fall. Four trips for Sericho Pallasite.
I’ll call this fall Komboini for the moment. I called my contacts in Kenya
immediately, one of whom arrived there Saturday evening less than 24 hours
after the fall. He was rapidly buying material for me. I have the hammer stone
(fell on a house in Komboini) and we removed the roof panel with the hole and
even the tile floor that was shattered by the stone. The meteorite shattered on
impact.
Most of the stones you’ve all seen in the photos and video I have. Some you
haven’t seen I have. Heavy rains started hours after the fall and any stones
recovered after the rains began are heavily oxidized already. I assume the fall
is an H5. Seems too high metal for an L but that’s also possible. Pieces will
be available for sale next week.    There will be enough to go around. As you
can see I have some kilos. Many stones sadly were picked up and hammered to see
what was inside them. Sad but will provide for lots of fresh fragments for
collectors.
Relax. I plan to make a coronavirus stay-at-home special offer to get pieces to
everyone at very low cost. Money is hard to come by these days. There is a
massive panic in Kenya with the Sericho crowd all selling and offering photos.
Most of them can’t move because Kenya is locked down. Be warned that many are
claiming to be there who aren’t there. Roads are blocked by military due to
coronavirus lockdown and movement is difficult or impossible for most. My guy
is high up in the government. He can move.
I’m being offered stones by Moroccans that I already purchased. Beware of
people offering pieces they don’t have in hand.Michael Farmer

[meteorite-list] Rare specimens ad

2020-04-15 Thread Michael Farmer via Meteorite-list
Offering three very rare nice pieces today. I’m starting to sort boxes and plan
to begin offering nice pieces to pay down bills in this tough time.
First
Park Forest. Famous Winslow street specimen. This meteorite has a crazy
history. It hit the road (this exact specimen shows asphalt embedded in the
rough side) the ricocheted into the side of a home in Winslow Street. It made a
large hole in the side of the house near the front door. A fragment also
damaged the car in the drive. A bidding war ensued for most of the pieces
(which I won at terrible cost). The woman had turned in the rock to the police
the night of the fall after reporting the damage to her home. She reclaimed
them from the police the next day but after I bought them all the police chief
called me weeks later threatening legal action or even arrest if I didn’t
return then. (They claimed that it belonged to the city die to impacting the
road before hitting the home). In the end I sent part back to the town for
their museum.
Stolen or not, meteorite is on way back to Park Forest

A meteorite that crashed through the atmosphere to land on a Park Forest street
and bounce into a yard on Winslow Drive was sold by the homeowner to an Arizona
dealer, but is coming back to the village after police demanded its return.

This piece weighs 29.31 grams and is an endcut with crust, impact marks and
polished face. $3000.00
Second is a partslice of Cumberland Falls. Aubrite fall from Kentucky April 9,
1919. Very rare and very hard to get. 7.25 grams. $2300.00 this piece is from
the Fernbank museum in Atlanta Georgia.
Last is Springwater PallasiteSaskatchewan Canada. 32.2 gram endcut. A rare
small piece. Most of what was found were larger individuals. This was from a
sub-100 gram individual. There weren’t at many of them and most sold intact.

Re: [meteorite-list] Educational presentations at Tucson?

2019-03-12 Thread Michael Farmer via Meteorite-list
The main problem is that the dealers are all tied up. I live in Tucson and the
show is a time where I don’t have a spare second for about 5 weeks.
I make a large chunk of my yearly income from the Tucson show. It’s a work time
for me. Most collectors and buyers come to Tucson with a couple of days. In
that time it’s impossible to see the show. The Tucson show itself is massive.
Covers venues all over the city tens of miles apart. There just no time to
attend such an event during the show.

[meteorite-list] Viñales meteorite fall report

2019-02-22 Thread Michael Farmer via Meteorite-list

I just spent a week in Viñales.
The stories about the fall are incredible.
I’d like to share a few things regarding the fall.

I speak fluent Spanish so getting the information was easy.

One farmer was in his yard feeding chickens when he saw the bright flash for a
couple of seconds he said brighter than the sun. Hard to see because the sun
was also in the same direction. It then he saw the smoke trail overhead
expanding once it passed over. A couple minutes later the sonic booms and
shockwave hit. he said it was like being punched. Then a minute or more after
the shockwave hit, stones started falling all around him.
He heard individual pieces screaming in making whistling sounds and hitting the
ground. One hit his garden about 50 feet away. Another landed in the pond
about 100 feet away, making a large water splash. Another hit in the coffee
plants behind his house. He said stones were falling for over a minute or two.
Hitting at different times. They didn’t all come down at once.
He and his family found 4 near his house. One he heard hit in thick brush and
it hasn’t yet been found. One hit a yucca plant nearly Cutting the trunk in
half. He found that stone 5 days later embedded in the soil at the base of the
plant.

His wife found another across the street of almost 1 kilogram. It was embedded
in the soil and only the top surface was showing.

One boy on a bicycle was riding home rapidly afraid from the explosions. He
thought it was an American missile attack. A large 250 gram meteorite slammed
into the asphalt road in front of him nearly hitting him. He saw it bounce into
the ditch and he jumped off the bike and grabbed it, rapidly throwing it down
because the stone was painfully cold.

Another stone landed on the patio of the guesthouse Where I stayed in downtown
Viñales town.
I spoke to three other people who saw stones hit the ground and picked the up
instantly, all said same thing, that they had to drop them because they were so
cold.

One stone penetrated a house roof in Viñales and smashed a laptop computer. I
have not located the stone or computer to confirm. Possible the police
confiscated it. I have people working on it. I know of at least 15 houses hit.
All stones taken by the government.

I drove all over the Viñales Valley area, a massive area and no part was spared
meteorites. They were everywhere. Heavily scattered and not well sorted.
10 gram stones fell a few feet from 2.5 kilogram stones. 50 gram, 500 gram. All
same place.

Miles away in the town of La Majagua, thousands of small peas landed. Sadly few
were collected. The area is dense jungle and forest. Some people reported
picking up over 100 stones in a short time. Many thrown away or given to the
government. People came from far away and took pieces. Miles up the road to the
east is the El Salto lake. Many stones were found on the dam. It has been
heavily searched and I spent a few hours there and didn’t find any. Some people
reported going into the pine forest nearby and finding many small stones on the
pine needles on the ground.
Sadly a massive heavy rain came last week only a couple days before my arrival
washing away the roads and making finds much more difficult. With limited time
I didn’t make any finds.

Most stones that landed in the soft farm soil penetrated in and vanished under
the soil. Before the rain people could see the impact holes and locate the
stone below. Now after the rain they are impossible to locate. Stones are still
being found in grassy pastures and fields. But ticks are a problem. Within
moments of entering the grass you will be covered in tiny ticks. I’m still
looking for them.

Stones are reported as falling in Pilotos village as well. This is due to the
high winds that curved the strewn field sharply to the east. Doubtless millions
of stones fell. The energy was 1.5 kiloton and the mass was 350~ tons. If 99 %
vaporized there would still be 3 tons on the ground.
The problem is that the main part of the strewn field with larger pieces is all
jungle, mountains and dense tropical forest. Not much chance of many large ones
being recovered, and the largest masses made it to the ocean.

Hard to estimate what’s been recovered. I’d put it at 30-50 kilograms or more.

I have a limited number of complete crusted stones from 10 grams up yo about 50
grams. I was able to decide what to purchase so I only took the best pieces.
Money is severely limited in Cuba due to no access to American banking.
Impossible to use any credit card or bank card. Cash is heavily taxed. Changing
is dollars incurs an instant 13% penalty tax!
Michael Farmer

If you want a gorgeous complete stone contact me rapidly. There aren’t many of
them. Mostly fragments.

[meteorite-list] Incredible Imilac slices sale

2018-11-15 Thread Michael Farmer via Meteorite-list
Amazing Imilac pallasite sale. New found pieces that boggle the mind. Many
small individuals were found just last month in Chile. I was able to grab many
of the best pieces, both for keeping intact and for cutting. Today I am proud
to announce that cutting is done on several of them and flawless translucent
slices are listed for sale in this announcement.
Imilac has virtually vanished from the market in the last few years as supply
dried up. These were all wire-saw cut and prepared in Germany, and will ship
from Germany registered mail worldwide.

All slices polished both sides, fully finished. None are etched. It can be done
on request.

see it delivered to my house in Tucson I’ll know it’s really for sale.

Where have you been Bob? This iron has been on the market for last year and a
half. Waste of time. I’ve tried to buy it. Your “friends” surely don’t own it
any more than anyone else sharing the photos. I’ve received them from people in

It’s a total scam.

[meteorite-list] Michigan fall.

2018-01-30 Thread Michael Farmer via Meteorite-list
For today perhaps a little longer I have three of the Hamburg Michigan
meteorites on display in the room in Tucson. Larry Atkins has generously
allowed me to show earth’s newest Meteorite.
Come see them in room 183 City Center Hotel. The Tucson show is in full swing
and business is booming.

Re: [meteorite-list] Want To Buy Large Zag or Monahans

2017-10-30 Thread Michael Farmer via Meteorite-list
There is plenty people don’t know I have. I possess a massive collection.
What’s visible on my website is 1/100th of what I have.
Monahans was important to me and I got it in exchange from ASU.
I’m not at home I’m in Europe and China so I can’t remember exact weight but
it’s a large piece from the NASA studied specimen with the halite crystals.

Very rare and very unobtainable for any price.

[meteorite-list] Announcing new Pallasite from Kenya

2017-05-12 Thread Michael Farmer via Meteorite-list
I am happy to announce today a new Pallasite from Kenya.
I have been working tirelessly on this project for the last five months. After
several trips to Kenya and 10 cargo shipments we are nearing the end.
A strewn-field was discovered in Wajir Kenya last year in the desert near the
border with Somalia. Needless to say, this area is a hot-zone, basically a war
zone. Moritz Karl and I had to have heavy security escort and armed guards
stationed at our hotel doors to prevent attack or kidnapping by Al Shabab
terrorists in February when we traveled to the location.
So far over 30 pieces with a total known weight of approximately 2 metric tons
has been found, of which myself, Jim Strope and Moritz Karl have purchased it
all. Sadly events beyond my control are forcing me to make it public today. Two
pieces were stolen from a shipment to Nairobi and are now being offered in
public. One is 65 kilos and the other I am not sure of the weight. Kenya
national Police are involved in tracking down the people involved in the theft.
This is a warning to anyone who buys the stolen pieces. I have legal export
permits for the exported specimens. The minister has been notified of the theft
and will block export of the stolen pieces until legal case is resolved to
dropped. Some smaller fragmented samples which were sledge-hammered have
possibly left Kenya however. Anything not issued an export permit is illegal to
remove from the Republic of Kenya.
The pallasite is extremely fresh and nearly all pieces are covered in
blue-black fusion crust. Pieces are being processed at this time for slices and
my hope was to announce it in Ensisheim in June. Due to the ongoing theft I
must announce it today to claim the credit for my work.
It has been submitted for classification and the work is ongoing with Laurence
Garvie and Devin Schrader at Arizona State University, center for meteorite
studies.

[meteorite-list] Tucson show up and running!

2017-01-26 Thread Michael Farmer via Meteorite-list
Hello everyone. My room with Jim and Eric is up and running and the best ever.
Amazing things on display and for sale. I had to leave for a family emergency
but am dealing with that and will return Sunday evening. Jim can handle all my
business in my absence.
Be sure to check it out. Room 184 Hotel City Center. Moritz Karl and Comet shop
are all right by me so the backside of the hotel has becoming meteorite-row.

Re: [meteorite-list] Enormous Quartzsite Gem and Mineral Show Now Happening in Arizona

2017-01-07 Thread Michael Farmer via Meteorite-list
I agree there are good deals on all manner of lapidary equipment and tools
there. Sadly the minerals are mostly junk. But like all swap meets and junk
shows there are certainly treasures that can be found as well.
I always stay in Blythe but it's a craphole too. But less crappy. Just buy your
gasoline in Arizona.
