Hi Chris and List,

I heard from Walt a couple of months ago and bought a specimen of DaG

address? If not, contact me offlist and I will give it you.

Best regards,

Hello Chris,

I am alive and well. Aside from my abdomen looking much like a combination
of the Tharsis and Valles Marineris regions on the planet Mars, I am doing
okay. Thanks for asking.

BTW, years ago I started making of list of meteorites which have hit Earth
objects. Your list in Mercury was my inspiration. Don't know if I every
thanked you but if not, thanks!

Hi Eric,

Great news. It is wonderful that a group of people from such a list can
get together and support an individual they have never met like this. I
am glad you were able to pass on all our hopes for his full recovery
with a personal visit. I bought my first 'fresh meteorite' ( amgala
with primary, secondary and tertiary fusion crusts ) from Walter...still
one of my favourites that I show to others to illustrate its firey flight.

As expected we talked meteorites, and hunting meteorites, and meteorite

As far as Walter himself goes he is getting better. He doesn't have
much of an appetite and it was obvious after a couple hours that he was
getting tired. While I was there the head of the rehab center dropped by
and said that as soon as the surgeons cleared him he was headed over to
rehab. That is expected sometime this week. After that the rehab people
will torture him until he can get in and out of bed and walk. A compound
fracture of his upper right leg makes that difficult now. Once rehab is
done it will be home to his own bed and family for further healing. That
isn't the end though because there will be further surgery required in the
coming months. All in all he looked really good for someone who nearly died
at the scene of the accident.

2007-03-28 Thread Walter Branch
Hello Everyone,

We had an exciting day today. Walter moved to the Rehabilitation Center.
He no longer has a feeding tube or picc line. He will begin therapy in the
morning around 9:00 a.m. and finish around 4:00 p.m. I suspect my visit
tomorrow will be short:) depending on how grouchy he is! One of the rehab
workers told me the average length of stay is about 2 weeks. So hopefully
Walter will be home soon. I appreciate all of the support financially and
emotionally. I have saved all of the emails so that Walter can read them
when he gets home. Thanks for all of your encouragement and support!

Dear Eric,

How wonderful that you did that! Yeah, Walter has only now met just two of
us but wait until he gets to Tucson next year... I hope we don't scare him

List,
I have never been through what Walter is going through. I do, however, have
experience with recovery from surgery after surgery after surgery. Help and
support comes very early on but then tapers off. Now is the time when Walter
needs all the strength and support we can give. I know you've all been
thinking about him and waiting for the updates just like I have. Please take
the time to send a digital hug, prayer, good thought, or positive vibe his
way at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Anyone wishing to send a snail-mail card or donation please contact me

Oh, and speaking of Rebekah... I am still accepting donations for the Walter
Branch Recovery Fund but the focus has changed slightly. I'm trying to raise
an additional $550 for Rebekah. She wants to continue dancing! Considering
the pelvic injuries she suffered in the accident, I think that's pretty
incredible.

Every dollar counts so please contact me off-list.

Thank you for what you've done so far. You are an amazing group of people.

Hello list,

I was out of mail contact for a while. All is fine since a couple of hours.
I owe to many of you replies. Please be patient, they should reach you
gradually from tomorrow on.

Upon reading the numerous mails that accumulated, I first believe I owe a
prioritary answer to Sabrina about Walter and daughter's accident.
---
Dear Sabrina and Walter,

This sad news is for sure a real tragedy for Walter, your beloved daughter
and your whole family.
I am just feeling so bad reading the news, although I only know Walter
through reading posts about him and his achievements.
Please accept my most sincere sympathy. I feel so fully concerned by your pain.

Two complementary messages for all of you are just crossing my mind.
Please first just keep strong faith! Never stop struggling. Walter and your
daughter must and will recover, that is sure.
The second suggestion is that Walter must find mental strength to fight and
to very strongly wish to recover soon. Will and faith can help all of you
to not only stimulate your minds but also bodies and contribute to a more
steady recovery.

Now, I'll pray. This quite often helps. I am sure you know.

Yours,

Zelimir

Hello,

I am Walter Branch's wife, Sabrina. On Friday, Walter and our daughter were
in an accident. Walter is in critical condition in Trauma ICU. He has
numerous internal injuries including 5 broken ribs, a punctured lung, a
bruised lung, a ruptured diaphragm (repaired Friday night), his kidneys are
not functioning as they should, his spleen was removed, and he had a
compound fracture of the right femur.

He is under heavy sedation due to agitation, but when they back off the
sedation, he is alert and in a great deal of pain. He is on minimum life
support at the moment.

When I saw him yesterday, I asked him if I should let all of you know and he
nodded yes. Please keep us in your prayers. Our daughter is home from the
hospital with a concussion, whip lash, and a fractured pelvis.

If Walter had an on-going transaction with you, please be patient. As soon
as he is able to tell me what to do, I will try to do what I can.

Sincerely,
Sabrina Branch

[meteorite-list] Walter Branch Recovery Donations

2007-02-06 Thread JKGwilliam
Hello List,
After reading the bad news about Walter and his daughter, I called Maria
Haas who was in Tucson attending the Gem Mineral Show to tell her the
news. Being the good soul that she is, she came up with the idea to
collect donations to assist Walter and his family during this trying
situation.

Maria spent the better part of two days collecting donations from meteorite
folks attending the Show and was delighted to find that members of the
meteorite community were quite generous.

During a phone conversation with Maria on Monday ( she was hunting
meteorites in Holbrook with Dave Andrews and Larry Mr. Lucky Atkins), she
asked if I'd post this message to the Met. List since she is away from her
computer.

Anyone who would like to donate money to assist Walter Branch and his
family can do so through Maria. She has a Premiere Paypal account, so she
can accept payments made with Visa, Master Card, E-Checks, etc. If you
prefer to mail donations to Maria that is possible too. Here is her Paypal
account e-mail and also her mailing address.

She won't be home from her trip to Arizona/Nevada until late on Saturday,
February 10, 2007. So if you try to contact her, don't expect a reply
until then.

From the description of the injuries, I'm guessing Walter's recovery will
be a long process. I've never met him in person, but have been in contact
with him for pretty close to 10 years. I'm sure that those of you who know
him or have done business with him will agree with me that he is a
wonderful guy full of integrity, honesty and charm. Please be generous.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me as well.

2007-02-05 Thread MARK BOSTICK
Thanks for your e-mail Sabrina,

Just came back from Tucson tonight and I was terribly saddened to read this
e-mail. I have e-mailed back and forth with Walter many times over the last
6 years or so and have always considered him a good friend and I think you
would find it hard to find anyone in the meteorite community that felt ill
towards the good doctor.

Hoping the best for Walter and Rebekah and sending positive energy your way.

I am sending a small package your way. If you would prefer I send it to the
hospital, please e-mail the address/room number to me privately.

Clear Skies,
Mark Bostick

What terrible news. Just saw it today.

When I was in the hospital Walter sent me a get well e-mail, along with
many, many others on this list.

We must pray for his recovery, and for the strength of all those that
are caring for him.

Send him e-mails to the hospital where he is.

Those e-mails are an inspiration for one to recover. I know, I was
there at edge of life.

Recover, Walter...

P.S. Could someone post on the list the e-mail of the hospital that he
is at so that we can wish him the best. To get those e-mails are a
blessing.

Do hospitals do that? I've never head of (or really thought about) e-mailing a
patient in a hospital.

Anyway, I did a little bit of Googling and found that Walter lives in Savannah,
Georgia. Googling for Savannah newspapers, then searching a newspaper, pulled
up this story:

http://savannahnow.com/node/218321

Which, unfortumately, didn't list the hospital involved. But Google shows 3
hospitals in the Savannah area:

http://www.google.com/search?num=100hl=ensafe=offq=savannah+hospitalsbtnG=Search

So someone could try phoning those hospitals and see which one he's in.
