Edward Diener 2019-05-28 19:50: There has not been an update to MingW-W64-builds for over a year while gcc 6.5, 7.4, 8.2, 8.3, and 9.1 have been released. The mingw-w64 downloads page at https://mingw-w64.org/doku.php/download looks wildly out of date as far as latest releases are concerned. Does nobody care ? I realize I am just an end-user and not a mingw-w64 developer, but does no one of the latter actually care about these things, or has mingw-w64 just become a platform for mingw-w64 developers where end-users are no longer very important ? [Mingw-w64-public] The toolchain's future and my taking part in this project
Hi, It's quite simple - I've lost my job and can no longer afford to work for free, although I want to... I've been building the MinGW-W64 toolchain since 2011. Later Alexey (alexpux, known by the MSYS2 project) joined me, and in 2014 we've decided to join the MinGW-W64 project. (Approximately in 2015 Alexey has founded the MSYS2 project and I continued to work basically alone.) Anyway, since 2014 I've been building the toolchain in the MinGW-W64 project. Since 2014 the number of downloads has increased many times. Initially I wrote a large email containing the descriprion of all the things I wanted to do to this project and the things I didn't want to do and the things I couldn't do. But too many words about what everyone already knows: to do something - it takes time, and to have time - money is needed. It's simple. All this time I was doing the things I could do and had time for. But I can no longer afford to work for free. I just leave here my BTC-wallet(3M1KnkdpU4Jg4C82KGWt638Bg94u6DHvKY), and maybe you want to express your thanks for the work done, or to encourage me to continue this work(please comment in description), or even offer me a job(you can write to me personally about this. My github profile: github.com/niXman). In case you don't want to public display your BTC-wallet - contact me and I'll create for you a separate one. Thank's to all of you, I was glad to work with you! Perhaps we'll work again... p.s. the text turned out to be chaotic, sorry :( -- Regards, niXman ___ Work for Bitcoins ___ Dual-target(32 & 64-bit) MinGW-W64 compilers for 32 and 64-bit Windows: https://sf.net/p/mingw-w64/ -- Check out the vibrant tech community on one of the world's most engaging tech sites, Slashdot.org! http://sdm.link/slashdot ___ Mingw-w64-public mailing list Mingw-w64-public@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/mingw-w64-public

maxgacode 2018-03-23 21:57: Dear All, Hi, This is my first message in the list and I'm writing to get some information. At the moment I'm using the MinGW-64 GCC 6.1.0 toolchain using Win64 and I'd like to upgrade my programming environment. Usually I avoid the x.0.0 version so I'm thinking to move to the GCC 7.x.x version of the toolchain avoiding the future 8.0.0. Because the upgrade is usally requiring to re-compile a lot of things I'd like to make the upgrade once a year. I found the GCC 7.2.0 toolchain (Mingw64) but some months ago the GCC team released the 7.3.0 version. I'd like just to know the planning you have. Are you going to make the 7.30 available or you are already moving to GCC 8.0.0? In the first case I'll be waiting for the availability of the 7.3.0 in the second case I'll go for for the 7.2.0. Re: [Mingw-w64-public] Is there a libbacktrace library for mingw-64/gcc
Edward Diener 2017-05-28 21:53: That does not seem very limiting. ELF and PE/COFF covers all popular object file formats on Linux and Windows respectively and surely just about everyone not using VC++ uses DWARF rather than sjlj. As I know, for windows targets DWARF is available only for 32bit targets.(But I can be wrong...) How would I build this above-linked libbacktrace in mingw-64 for myself ? Am I supposed to use the current mingw-64 build script to do so and just copy the aforementioned 3 files to some final directories ? 1) clone mingw-builds scripts into your home dir. 2) cd mingw-builds 3) switch to develop branch 4) ./build --mode=gcc-7.1.0 --bootstrap --buildroot=/c/mingw710 --threads=posix --exceptions=dwarf --arch=i686 --bin-compress --jobs=2 --rev=0 --rt-version=v5 If the building of mingw-w64 in your environment is successful, I will tell you which files and where to copy to. -- Regards, niXman ___ Dual-target(32 & 64-bit) MinGW-W64 compilers for 32 and 64-bit Windows: https://sf.net/p/mingw-w64/ -- Check out the vibrant tech community on one of the world's most engaging tech sites, Slashdot.org! http://sdm.link/slashdot ___ Mingw-w64-public mailing list Mingw-w64-public@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/mingw-w64-public
Re: [Mingw-w64-public] Is there a libbacktrace library for mingw-64/gcc
Edward Diener 2017-05-28 16:32: 2) libbacktrace can be part of a mingw-64 distribution but relies on other files in that distribution ? Yes. I see in [2] below that there was a discussion of making libbacktrace standalone, but it appears that in the 4 years from that discussion that it was never followed through. I can make the libbacktrace part of the mingw-w64 distribution. In order to do this I should copy the three files(libbacktrace.a, backtrace.h, gstdint.h) from the GCC build tree. But pay attention to the limited possibilities of libbacktrace, the developer[1] of this library writes about: As of September 2016, libbacktrace only supports ELF and PE/COFF executables with DWARF debugging information. Re: [Mingw-w64-public] Is there a libbacktrace library for mingw-64/gcc
Edward Diener 2017-05-27 23:37: Hi, Do I use msys2 in order to build libbacktrace ? When building do I need to use the version of mingw-64/gcc for which I will be using libbacktrace when I eventually use mingw-64/gcc as my compiler ? If I need to do that do I just add the mingw-64/gcc compiler to the beginning of my msys2 path ? I have used various versions of mingw-64/gcc binaries in order to test Boost libraries but I have never built another library for use by any particular version of mingw-64/gcc, which is why I am asking these questions. You can just use the mingw-builds[1] scripts that are used to build the official mingw-w64 toolchains. But the problem is yesterday I rebuild gcc-7-branch and in the logs of the builbing I can see libbacktrace has successfully builded, but not installed. In accordance with this message[2], the libbacktrace should not be installed in the destination directory because the developers find an it inner instrument of GCC. [Mingw-w64-public] errno.h or winerror.h ?
Hi, I want to restore the order in 'error_constants.h'[1] file, because there are so many constants commented out in this file. But I have a difficulty: for example, with macro 'EAFNOSUPPORT'. This macro is defined in 'errno.h'[2] file and in 'winerror.h'(but with 'WSA' prefix)[3] file. I have two questions: 1. What macro should I use? 2. Why these two macros has different values? Thanks!
