Hi,
For the 2.6 kernel, is there any easy way for me to lay hands on the
rtl8187 kernel module? I was going to see if a different network interface
would have better luck with WPA2. A $20 USB WiFi adaptor seemed like a cheap
way to do this.

Yes, it should just changing the configuration to "M", recompiling the kernel
from sources and copyin
