I've worked with several different OS and phone brands (Nokia/Symbian, iPhone, HTC/Android). The one I feel more comfortable is the Nokia N900 it runs Maemo 5, is a Debian like Linux, you can use it as a normal Linux machine. Maybe another phones running Maemo could bring a similar experience.
