I have the same problem as described in the post Mnemosyne + LaTeX on
Mac OS X? with the difference that I don't use Mac OS X but Linux
(Ubuntu 8.04).
I installed Latex (the Tex live package) and dvipng.
However, if I try to implement Latex code in cards, I get the error

There was was a problem related to Ubuntu and Latex in one of the earlier
version. I'm not sure if Ubuntu already ships the version with the fix.
