I've installed Apache/mod_perl on Linux (Suse 6.0, 6.1, Mandrake 6.0, 6.1)
about a dozen times without a problem. Build it from source.

Linux, it was to build everything from source. This was about three years
ago.. so maybe things have gotten better.
