Thanx for the reply advice.
I have not taken any short cuts...
I had my apache 1.3.x working using apache/mod_ssl openssl
my site would open only using ssl.
Then I had to migrate to apache 2.0.. for some reason... that too only in one
day.
That is the reason I floated
I want to use apache 2.0 how do I configure it with mod_ssl openssl.
Please guide its very very urgent.

I've redhat linux 7.1 installed and openssl-0.9.6 was already installed on it. I was
not willing to use that installedm, but i want to install trom tar.gz in /usr/local,
