Re: [MOPO] THE THIEF OF BAGDAD
Kirby...this is so cool! it just so happens that Korda's THIEF OF BAGDAD is one of my favorite movies...I saw it for the first time when I was about seven years old (it was the first re-release) and fell in love with it. i have watched it many times over the years and have always regarded it as the quintessential Arabian Nights fantasy movie. I'm thrilled to learn that there is a new Criterion DVD of the film, and delighted that you are one of the 'extras on the disc. I will certainly get one ASAP. Can't wait to hear your interview! Richard Richard Del Belso Date: Tue, 3 Jun 2008 22:44:39 -0500 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [MOPO] THE THIEF OF BAGDAD To: MoPo-L@LISTSERV.AMERICAN.EDU I'm happy to let the members know that an interview that I did with the composer Miklos Rozsa for public radio station KUT-FM at The University of Texas at Austin has been included, in excerpts, in the new Criterion DVD of Alexander Korda's THE THIEF OF BAGDAD. The interview was done in 1975. An associate of mine, Tom DeMary, who is a huge film fan and film soundtrack fan, introduced me to Dr. Rozsa, and set up the interview. Rozsa went into a studio in Santa Monica and I was recorded in Austin. For many years, I thought this interview was lost when station personnel inadvertently bulk erased some programs I had produced. But Tom had an additional air check copy. The originals were given to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, where digital masters of the tapes were made. The Academy were kind enough to provide CD copies Tom suggested we offer the recording to Criterion and they decided to use it on the supplements disc in the set. THE THIEF OF BAGDAD DVD has another treat for Michael Powell and Korda fans, an additional film, the war propaganda film THE LION HAS WINGS. Typical Criterion quality has been employed in the execution of the DVD. The 1,200-word analysis by Catherine Holahan featuring quotes by Bruce -- that originated in Business Week magazine in New York yesterday -- has gone super viral today. Re: [MOPO] Hershenson story goes viral
I've been telling people for months that fleaBay was going to eliminate auctions and become a shopping site so it doesn't surprise me they screwed up the deal tweaking the site continue to screw it up and myself.. I'm thrilled to see it because ultimately it only makes movieposterbid, Bruce's site, Heritage any others that much better (presuming you bid on movie posters) fleaBay will also be downsizing manpower and as time goes by, their gross net incomes will slide until they reach a natural water level from which they will probably never move many points up or down after that. in other words, fleaBay will become something very average in many ways.. as if it hasn't already Rich=== At 01:04 PM 6/4/2008, David Kusumoto wrote: The 1,200-word analysis by Catherine Holahan featuring quotes by Bruce -- that originated in Business Week magazine in New York yesterday -- has gone super viral today. Re: [MOPO] Hershenson story goes viral
What is most interesting about the story is this idea that online auctions may, as a whole, be sliding because consumers increasingly want to buy something NOW and not have to wait till an auction ends in a week's time to find out if they won it or not. Of course, this could just be eBay's rationale in order to move toward a set-price retail model, but IF this is true (I personally think it is, though it is also only one factor among many in the market sea-change that is going on), then ALL auctions, except those at the highest end, will be affected, eBay or not. Re: [MOPO] Hershenson story goes viral
only if you have the fleaBay any kind of listing in any category site Dave focused sites like MoviePosterBid.com eMovieposter.com and Heritage.com will flourish because we deal with a specific clientelle however bid sniping could be coming to an end to a great degree as it becomes redundant But I really think that you also have to take a broader view of what happened from 1995-2008 I started my comic-art.com site in 1994 when there were fewer than 50,000 websites. Today there are over 500 million sites also in 1994, less than 15 or 20% of the US households had personal computers.. It was just about to explode by 2000 75% of US households had personal computers, so you had 100s of millions of new websurfers and websites and now the saturation is about 90%. (if you don't have a computer you are either: tech-scared, very old, or poor) so during that time frame you had all kinds of people who had never been to a Sotheby's or Christie's auction discovering the auction format at their desk and like drugs.. their computers were addictive as was the fleaBay experience of winning fleaBay became the crack cocaine of the internet but unlike crack cocaine, people have been able to wean themselves away from fleaBay because of theft, bad press and a capricious management that in all likelihood didn't use the site that much and therefore probably couldn't really understand the buyers or sellers the internet is also no longer a new thing to hardly anyone, and after you've been using the net.. it becomes easier to determine how you are going to move forward as a buyer or seller in eCommerce fleaBay will get smaller to some degree and maintain that certain presence for the rest of their life until rthey get gobbled up absorbed by some other company.. like Microsoft .. who would be looking to move toward providing stronger eCommerce solutions for revenue Rich== At 03:27 PM 6/4/2008, Dave Rosen wrote: What is most interesting about the story is this idea that online auctions may, as a whole, be sliding because consumers increasingly want to buy something NOW and not have to wait till an auction ends in a week's time to find out if they won it or not.
