[MOSAIC] debate on fluency assessments

I apologize in advance if this topic is a repeat of one I previously posed or if it is not suitable for this forum...We continue to debate the manner of assessing fluency/accuracy for benchmark assessments. We assess all students with the DIBELS oral reading fluency in grades 1 and 2. However,

Since you are required to do both, it would be useful to do one cold and one warm as you indicate. The comparison would provide a lot of information about your students as readers. Arlyne NYC Sent from my iPad On May 10, 2012, at 8:05 AM, Conner-Righter, Mary mrigh...@pennsvalley.org wrote:

Better yet. read the book (if you haven't already) and create something yourself that represents what the book means to you. It will have more meaning for you, and you will learn more. Kind of like a student doing his or her own book study or book report rather than using someone

Mary, I don't think kids should ever be *tested* for anything with a cold reading, so I think your idea of doing the district text with a *warm* reading is a good one. You might discover some things. :-) Renee Goularte On May 10, 2012, at 5:05 AM, Conner-Righter, Mary wrote: I apologize

Mosaic of Thought is all about a reader's thought process as they read, and the different kinds of thinking that one uses as they read. As a classroom teacher it was my goal through conferencing to find the students' strengths and weaknesses and teach into that. I would give a quick overview
