Why don't you go on readinglady.com website and click tools and resources.
There is a wealth of materials, handouts, lesson plans etc . They have been
developed over the years from teachers' studies, reading and beliefs in the
works of Mosaic of Thought and other books alike.

I apologize in advance if this topic is a repeat of one I previously posed
or if it is not suitable for this forum...We continue to debate the manner
of assessing fluency/accuracy for benchmark assessments. We assess all
students with the DIBELS oral reading fluency in grades 1 and 2. However,
Since you are required to do both, it would be useful to do one cold and one
warm as you indicate. The comparison would provide a lot of information about
your students as readers.

Better yet. read the book (if you haven't already) and create

Mary,
I don't think kids should ever be *tested* for anything with a cold
reading, so I think your idea of doing the district text with a *warm*
reading is a good one. You might discover some things. :-)

I am doing a presentation on the importance of activating schema. I used to
have song lyrics for a country song that sounds in the beginning like he is
singing a love song to a woman, but it turns out to be a car. Does anyone
remember the title of this? I want to find the song on ITunes and
Mosaic of Thought is all about a reader's thought process as they read, and
the different kinds of thinking that one uses as they read. As a classroom
teacher it was my goal through conferencing to find the students' strengths
and weaknesses and teach into that. I would give a quick overview
I have a student who has become so freaked about over his reading that
he now panics on tests.
He seems bright and capable, and up until now I have thought he was
suffering from adolescence and not really putting in much effort.
His mom just told me that he cannot recall details from his
Hi Jennifer, I think the song you are looking for is First Love by Alan

I know that this listserv is primarily for reading comprehension but I am
desperately hoping to get some feedback on the following . . . Does anyone use
'data teams' to administer ALL 'universal screen' assessments to students? If
so, do these data teams include the classroom teacher? Our
We have those teams to do the dibles benchmarks three times a year. We also
have rti days twice a quarter where we meet with all of the intervention staff
like you had mentioned. At first I was unsure, but now I like it.

Makes perfect sense to me in Education 2012 -- make sure to put everything
possible in the hands of those the furtherest from the child. That way the
people with the least knowledge of the child can make the most decisions.
Perfect sense, I tell you.

It would save you a lot of time and you would be able to teach more and not
give the assessments yourself. You will get to know your students as readers
reguardless by listening to them read in any format and conferring with them
about what you notice. Just take notes as you listen to them read.
That's it!

If your data collection is anything like ours (aimsweb) it is useless as far
as informing instruction. We waste hours in data team meetings discussing
scores that measure how fast a child can read, rather than if he can
comprehend. I'd consider myself lucky to be as distanced as possible.
Has there been testing for a learning disability?
