Sorry about the late post but Ben Yokel and I found a Great Gray Owl
on Stoney Lake Road in Sax/Zim on Sunday morning January 17th.
It was overcast at about 8 AM. The owl was approximately one half
mile from Hwy 7 on the north side of the road. It was very shy and
flew away quickly after
So far we have 57 reported Northern Hawk Owls in northern Minnesota. There was
a report of a Northern Hawk Owl just south of Baudette but with no mileage to
go on I did not add this sighting to the owl map. So officially its 58 reported
Northern Hawk Owls. So if you want your hawk owl sighting

This past Saturday on Lake Nichols Road in the Sax-Zim bog I watched a Hawk
Owl hunt over and land on the ice-filled ditch along the road. This was
about one mile east pf Hwy 7 on the north side of the road. This happened
shortly after noon and lasted about 30 minutes.
