Interesting mix at Ann Lake/Sand Dunes Sherburne Refuge yesterday morning:

Common Raven
Belted Kingfisher
Snow Buntings
Horned Larks (first returning migrants, or holdovers?).
Also had a flock of Purple Finches at a Santiago feeder.

Yesterday I showed 5 friends around the bog (one of which was brand-new to
birdwatching), and we had a fantastic time! The very first birds observed in
the bog (even before noting any crows or ravens), were two Sharp-tailed
Grouse in a field. After watching these beautiful and large chickens of
I found a Tufted Titmouse in the town of Elgin in Wabasha County at about
12:30. I first heard it at the corner of W Main St and 2nd Ave NW and then saw
it at the corner of 1st NW and 1st Ave NW where there is an active feeder.

Spent the day by myself to do some scouting for the festival and get a good
feel
of any recent changes in the bog. Admiral Rd. feeders are still attracting
fair amounts of Pine Grosbeaks and up to 4 Boreal Chickadees. I did see 3 male
White-winged Crossbills feeding over the area in a spruce
The L. Vadnais (Ramsey Co.) Townsend Solitaire is still present in the
location noted earlier in the winter. It came out of the cedars and
perched in a deciduous tree above the path to investigate us, before
disappearing back into the cedars.
