Hi all,
I found a single Eurasian Collared Dove on 3/15 feeding with a bunch of
starlings south of Faribault. This was along CR 39 just east of where it
intersects with Canby Ave. There are a few silver grain bins on the property
and the dove was on the ground amidst a flock of starlings. It

Interesting juxtaposition at Sherburne NWR, Mahnomen Trail this morning -
Bohemian Waxing calling, followed by Sandhill Cranes - not sure I've ever
had both in the same day before, no less a minute or two apart.
Trail was very noisy this morning, Trumpeters, Canadas, Cranes calling
Around 7:30 this morning I observed a Common Loon flying south over County
Road B2 just west of Hamline Avenue in Roseville. I wonder if it flew north
looking for open water and had to retreat south. Any thoughts?

There has been a red-tailed hawk at the intersection of HY 7 and HY 100 in
for several years. Before the state upgraded the cloverleaf, there was a small

There was a nest. I suspect the owls and the redtails
Maybe it's one of the pair that nested in Lakeville last year, or
other parts south or adjacent to this latitude. After all, we have no
certainty that the southerly nesters are later arrivals, do we?
Maybe they're just early starter, ready to begin breeding.

This morning, 16 March, there was still a first-winter Great Black-
backed among the other gulls at Canal Park in Duluth, presumably one
of the individuals which have been wintering here. At the time, there
were only a few dozen gulls present. There was also a probable first-

This afternoon I've noticed more Red-tailed Hawks flying north up the
Minnesota River Valley here at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter in
addition to all of the Bald Eagles the past few days, and just a few
minutes ago the first Turkey Vulture I've seen this year was with them.
Glad to
A single American Coot was at the dam (north side, east bank) at 1600 today.
Bald eagles continue to work the area; today featured two sub-adults. Red
tailed hawks were seen as well as a few common mergansers, but only two
goldeneyes. Ring billed gulls were numerous.
Today was the first day I
I just wanted to add on to Thomas Malone's entry as I was at Coon Rapids Dam
around noon today.
In addition to what Tom saw, I also spotted one single Ruddy Duck, 2

My husband, Tom, and I took a walk about 5 pm and saw three Sandhill Cranes
flying overhead near 41 and Pioneer Trail. Around 2 pm in the same area, I
watched two immature eagles engaging each other in the sky, locking talons and
tumbling down. Very cool acrobatics.
Oh, and my husband
Today I heard my first Red-winged Blackbird on territory in Eagan by the Post
Office. I saw a Crow carrying nesting material crossing Highway 169 in Eden
Prairie south of the Crosstown.
A Red-tailed Hawk was sitting on the perch on the Osprey platform near the ice
arena in Edina near the Crow

Went fishing this evening, on Clear Lake at SE edge of the city of Forest
Lake. Around 6:00 PM, to our GREAT excitement, 7 Sandhills flew directly
over us, going in the direction of Carlos Avery.
Caught 4 small fish, all went back down the hole. The ice is 24-26 but if
