Hi All,
Following the hotline report about the yellow-breasted chat , I decided I'd
better make a loop around the wildlife drive early this morning. I saw or
heard 58 species.
Here are some highlights:
Orchard oriole pair at mile 2.2. Also several cedar waxwings.
Two broods of common
Around 11:30 this morning I was quite surprised to observe a small flock of
Red Crossbills at the Talcot WMA headquarters in extreme southwest
Cottonwood County. The birds were flying low and calling overhead and
consisted of several adult birds, but I was unable to determine if any
juveniles were
We have several feeders with sunflower chips and a suet feeder in our yard.
For the past couple of weeks we have been watching as adult pileated
woodpeckers have been feeding a young one that has a short, fuzzy red
topknot. Much to our surprise, suddenly there were 4 at the feeders at
once!
There is a lot of good shorebird habitat at Purgatory Creek in Eden Prairie
with the low water and lots of exposed mud.
I went this morning and was able to identify 7 shorebird species:
Semipalmated Sandpiper - 2
Least Sandpiper
Semipalmated Sandpiper
Pectoral Sandpiper
Lesser Yellowlegs
Greater
