Maybe John just answered my question.
I was in Kittson County for a couple of days, and saw a group of 17 marbled
godwits (July 1) in a large field. I pulled over to look at them - count them
- and try to get a photo. They took off in a generally SSE direction
Over the last 10+ years, I have searched for Henslow's Sparrow in Benton
County every spring and summer with no success. Last night, I finally found
not just one, but 2 of them calling from a field in an area where I had
least expected them. From what I can determine, this is a county record.
Indeed, Al.
I agree with your points and would add several more:
The intellectual and perceptual challenges of birding are an satisfying.
Studying field guides before, during and after a good sighting to figure
out what gull or shorebird (or sparrow, warbler, vireo, flycatcher, etc)

I do not recall if anyone has previously reported this bird, but there is an
active Osprey nest near the tennis courts behind Oakwood Elementary School in
Plymouth. the school is in the Wayzata School District and is located at the

Good to hear from you again Al. Thanks for sharing this.
I got into birding as photography is my main hobby, and nothing more

Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge. At 7:30 am, there were two birds that
could be heard to the East of the Blue Hill Trail parking lot.
On my way home, I was able to relocate a Western Kingbird along Highway 10

Just a quick update before the long holiday weekend...
Several people have emailed, or stopped by, to say they've seen the Henslow's
sparrow(s) east of the Blue Hill Trail parking area. The mute swan was not in
the pond across from the wildlife drive entrance this morning.
This Henslow's sparrow was seen on the Prairie Trail north of Richardson Nature
Center. It was on the northeast corner of the trail about thirty yards south of
a dark brown bench. This is the same location it was seen a week ago. Hyland
Park is in Hennepin County.
Also, the trumpeter swan eggs
For the 2nd straight July, shorebird habitat(flooded farm fields) is quite
ample in western Carver and eastern Sibley Counties. My first fall migrant, a
Least Sandpiper, showed up on June 30 near Assumption. Today, July 2, in
addition to Killdeer(not particularly numerous) I found 1 Spotted,
