As of last weekend only a few Tundra Swans had arrived at Brownsville. The
diver duck numbers are climbing, but are below normal as well. The peak is yet
to come

that means that this bird will stick around at least until the field trip on
Sunday.
If anyone sees this owl in the next couple of days, please keep me posted with
its location. It would be nice to share this bird with field trip attendees.

was there but
to be honest wasn't looking that hard since I found adults of both species.
I also missed the 1st cycle Lesser Black-backed Gull that has been reported.
This could have been for a lack of attention to the juveniles that were in
the area.

Yesterday, I saw a first year Iceland Gull on the break wall on the
Minnesota side of the Superior entry at around 3:00.
On the Wisconsin side, there was a single Common Tern and a couple of small
groups of shorebirds including Ruddy Turnstones, Sanderlings, and Dunlin.
Good Birding,
Gail:
That is a picture of a Yellow-throated Vireo. The beak is too large /
blocky for a warbler. It has the distinctive eye-ring and yellow upper
breast, yellow-green head and upper back, and white wing bars.

Not a silly question. We should spell it out the first time and then use
the abbreviation.

I went over to Nelson Park over my lunch hour today and met several birders
who had been looking for the Pomarine Jaeger. As of about 1:30, no one had
seen the bird today.
I will keep everyone posted if that changes.

someone witnesses more of an attempt on this bird, it would be worth getting
the license of the vehicle and reporting the person to the DNR since this
would be a case of poaching.

of the bird's head. That shot
clearly shows a small black spot on the upper mandible and an elongated red
spot on the lower mandible that match the bill markings on the Pt. Douglas
bird. All of the other features match as well. I would have to believe that
this is the same individual.
