In the wildlife management area on the south side of Co. 18 (Anoka
Co., I think), a flock of snow buntings passed over a marshy field. We
later encountered one of their kind in the sandy roadbed on the east
side of this area. It was most cooperative about giving us good views,

At Carlos Avery this morning there was a flock of 11 dunlins at pool
9, and two ravens in a tree along the road at the northwest corner of
pool 5. The ravens flew off with a wonderful "gronk, gronk, gronk".
Cranes everywhere, including one group of 46 in a wet meadow.
I visited Carlos Avery today and there were 100's of ringed-necked ducks,
perhaps 700 mostly in Pools 9 and 10 20-25 pied billed grebes, perhaps 40
coots, 5 N shovelers and a few bw teal about 10 to 15. There were also a few
Canadian geese about 15 and mallards perhaps about 10. I also spotte

a lone Red-necked Phalarope in Pool 8 and 10 Least Sandpipers in Pool 4. Other
