Just received a correction to my observations re: the ospreys in Central Pk., Roseville. The birds are more likely still in the nest-building stage and what the one had in its mouth was probably nest-building material that it pushed into the nest (they use their talons to carry things). Also:

This morning I spent almost an hour on the various paths in the Browns Creek area where the teal had been reported the last few days. I spent most of the time in the area reported (near Atwood CIrcle) but checked at 4 other ponds as well. I couldn't find it anywhere, so it may have moved on.

The osprey nest on top of one of the baseball light fixtures in Central Park is occupied. Yesterday afternoon we observed a pair sitting on top of it; then one of the birds flew off and came back shortly thereafter with a small fish in its mouth which it fed to something deeper down in the
