Dear
Messengers,
Did
someone ever investigate the difference in Message delivery sequence?
I mean the
penalty for Priority when Fifo is all you need.
Hope
someone did.

Hi there,
Does anyone know where I can download the
software for WMQ clients? Is there a client available for the Mainframe?
TIA,
Kulbir.

Hi
I don't think there is an MQClient for the mainframe. I believe there is a
(chargeable) component which allows MQClients to connect to the mainframe,
but the mainframe still runs MQServer. I think it is called the MQ client
connection facility or some such.

Tony,
Well it all depends on where the channels are running. If the channels are
running as threads of the listener which was the case prior to 5.3 then the
channels themselves will terminate (and probably not in a nice way if
you're talking KILL -9 or task manager here). 5.3 and after, killing
All of our DLQs are also monitored.
My application people use their own failure queues for application
related issues. Only the system puts messages to the DLQ and we very
rarely have any messages land there. I get paged if the DQL Depth is
0 and handle it manually or use the DLQ handler
We have a 'home grown' DLQ handler that
will write a report record for each DLQ message, with the pertinent header
information. We once ran into the problem of the messages on the DLQ expiring
before we could determine what they were and why they were on the queue. This
can be kicked off

Use FIFO if that is all you need. IF you set Priority and FIFO is all you
need I don't believe the performance reduction is enough for you to worry
about. Except may at QMGR restart time. What will cause you asprin
cinsumptions is when you have messages on the queue and you switch back and
forth.
I have not confirmed what someone stated to me about two weeks ago but I was
lead to believe there is now a client available for the mainframe. Maybe
it's the transactional client, I just did not follow it up.

Stop by and download the new MQPRINT utility at WWW.BIGBLUESOFTWARE.COM - It's a
usefull in-house developed batch program to print your MQSeries messages in IDCAMS
Hex Character format, as well as displaying your MQMD header fields - And it's
FREE right now in our TECHNICAL MATERIALS
Hi,
I have been at my current client (brokerage-house) for about a year now as a
messaging architect. Because of the nature of their business, I have been able
to wield a fair amount of influence over the applications, so that there is not
any misdirected, misguided, etc... messages.

There is no MQ client for z/OS.

Christopher
We had this happen several times also. It has always been when a W2K hot fix
has been applied. CSD07 has a fix for it I believe.

Can someone please give me the link that shows all the WMQ/MQSeries supported platforms (both for MQ Server and Client) I remember seeing it on an IBM site a while back, cannot find it any longer.
Thanks,

Thanks, Peter. I usually do Google too, as I find it hard to find everything I need on the IBM sites...

Unfortunately this sort of policy doesn't work in all cases. What about a
client application which connects to a qmgr and requests a reply, but is
somehow disconnected. The temp dyn queue disappears and the reply message
goes to the dead letter queue. Or there could be backend database problems
But these are examples of the RCVR MCA putting the message to the DLQ (i.e.
the system is putting to the DLQ). The application didn't put the message
to the DLQ. There is no other good alternative in this scenario. Contrast
this to the app the does a successful GET, expects ABC starting in the
I agree. I guess I misunderstood what was meant by applications putting
messages to the DLQ.
