RE: [mssms] Dealing with Disabled Machines?

How about, using maik koster solution to get the disabled computers into sccm
database and then try to compare these disabled computers(AD) with sccm
computers (kind of vlookup).

We currently have a script that disables machines (in AD) and moves them to
another OU when they haven't been online for x days.

The issue I have is that the machines are then invisible to SCCM and so they
don't update which collection they are in. We have a collection for 'All
Desktops and Laptops' which now has a lot of old disabled machines in it, this
plays havoc with your compliance reports.

Does anyone know if it is possible to update the computer objects in SCCM so
that they report the correct collection (and OU)? Ideally we would like the
collection to exactly mimic the AD OU.

P.s We want to keep the old objects in SCCM so we have some information about
old machines, ie we don't want to 'clean up' them.

[mssms] RE: SCCM 2007 Prestaged Media with Multiple Task Sequences

2015-01-20 Thread Dave West
We did look at putting multiple images on the disk but it's not supported by
Prestaged media as there can only be a single image referenced.

We could go down the custom scripts route but we really want to keep it as
simple as possible.

Subject: [mssms] SCCM 2007 Prestaged Media with Multiple Task Sequences

We want to build a prestaged image for our OEM using our Windows 7 64-bit
image. However, what will happen if another task sequence is selected that
uses a different image, say Windows 7 32-bit, when the computer is deployed on
site?

I ask as the documentation says that the prestaged media will have the task
sequence variable _SMSTSMediaType = OEMmedia which means that it will skip the
'Format and Partition Disk' step (assuming you add the check condition) and it
will automatically skip the 'Apply Operating System Image' step. This variable
does not check as to what specific image has been applied, it assumes that the
task sequence you are running references the same image used when creating the
prestaged media image.

So, if the prestaged media image uses a 64-bit image and we select a task
sequence that uses a 32-bit image, according to the documentation, the task
sequence it will still skip the 'Format and Partition Disk' and either skip the
'Apply Operating System Image' step altogether, or if there is logic built in
to detect the image used compared to that being applied, it will apply the
32-bit image over the top of the 64-bit prestage image already on the disk.
Either way the deployment is wrong.

To combat this we have tried adding a signature file to our images and then
adding a task to set a task sequence variable based on the existence of the
signature file. If the file matches the image used in the task sequence then
we skip the 'Format and Partition Disk' step as documented, however if the file
does not match (i.e. the image to be applied is not the same as the prestaged
image) then we do perform the 'Format and Partition Disk' step. The problem is
that even though we have formatted the disk, because the task sequence variable
_SMSTSMediaType = OEMmedia the 'Apply Operating System Image' step fails as it
is looking for the prestaged image.

How can we use prestaged media images but still allow other images (task
sequences) to be applied without having to use separate boot media?

Can anyone help with this?

You can (pseudo code) 500..5 | custom function for GetStatusMessage which
is the output Sherry replied with. It only outputs the description template for
each message id though. The 2007 spreadsheet from John is all I've been able to
find that joins the message id with the component or list the attribute types.

RE: [mssms] Newly built machines into patching collection - Follow-up

2015-01-20 Thread Mike Dzikowski
If you re-image a machine, are the latest updates injected in the WIM or
perhaps advertised toward the unknown or osd deployment collection, etc? That
way the updates should be installed at build time.

If not, perhaps a compliance setting that checks the status and compliance
state for updates. Then you could have the non-compliant machines populated
with query based collection.

RE: [mssms] RE: Report on which boundary the client is in

2015-01-20 Thread Eswar Koneti
Right click tools for Client Information module works only when client is
online (ping happens) .For report, you should try to manipulate the below SQL
Views to obtain the required information.
vSMS_BoundaryGroup--stores information about boundary
groupsvSMS_Boundary--stores informtion about
boundaryv_GS_NETWORK_ADAPTER_CONFIGURATION--stores information about IP
address .
but if you go with reports,am not sure if you get right information since, each
machine may have multiple IP address (when they move to new subnet /Roaming)
stored in DB ,and one client can be part of 2 or more boundary/boundary groups
due to roaming.
Take a look at the powershell script (Device - Client Information.ps1) from Now
Micro tools how it works with WQL Query.

I don’t know about a report but I know Now Micro’s Right Click Tools allows you
to see which boundary a client falls into under the Client Tools - Client
Information module

Subject: [mssms] Report on which boundary the client is in

We’re setup using a combination of IP address and subnet boundaries. Is it
possible to put together a report that would link a client to the boundary that
it falls in based on the IP address of the client? There seems to be a burning
desire
to have this information for other various reports and tasks, since our
boundary descriptions would provide the office location of a machine.

Oh man... as my dear old friend Eduardo would say... I sure wish there was a
way to control BITS from the server side...

Maybe fairy godmother, Cinderella, Santa or even Mary
