I recently updated my google preferences and limited set allow
unsecure apps to off.
Later I tried to login to gmail with mutt and found it no longer
worked as imap attempted AUTHENTICATE PLAIN over port 993 (SSL).
I'm a little confused about why google consider this unsafe. I'd like

ments/suggestions why it's a bad idea?
I can imagine people will not like saving state, however you could
just dump it into the mutt header cache directory.

view?
I'm happy to have the unread count in the cache, it doesn't have to
be the server's count.
