[MLO] Re: Updated to version 5, a few questions

2018-09-05 Thread Pat K.
I found answer to both of my questions, so I thought I would post back.

1. The checkmarks were icons in the tabs. To change or remove an icon, you
just right click the tab and go to "Assign icon". For some reason when I
updated, all the tab icons had changed checkmarks.

2. To change back to v4.4.8, I just had to save my mlo file in a "v4" file
type. So I'm back on v4 for now. I may try v5 again later.

[MLO] Re: Program blocking problems

2018-09-05 Thread Alyona (MLO Support)
Hello Vincenzo,

Thank you for raising your concerns in the matter. We have received similar
complaints from other users and now we're trying to collect as much useful
information as possible in this regard. We hope for your cooperation in the
matter.
There are a few questions that we hope will help us to sort it out:

   - if you create a new blank .ml file, will the app lock up?
   - will the app lock up if you reinstall the app, create a new test file
without an activation key. What happens after you enter the activation key?
   - if you leave the locked up app for 15 minutes approximately will an
error show up? Please send us a screenshot
   - if you turn off your antivirus software does the issue occur?
   - please send us the logs: MLO- >Tools- >Options- >Troubleshooting-
   >Export Logs- >Send a received archive to MLO support

Thank you!

Hello, my name is Vincenzo and I write from Italy. I have recently updated
my PRO version of the MLO to version 5. Immediately after the installation
I encountered the following problem: after a few seconds the opening of the

mouse and I am forced to close it with the windows task manager. I specify
that I use your program on a desktop PC Hp with Intel 5, 16 GB of RAM and

am waiting for a solution to the problem.

[MLO] Re: Is anyone using Google calendar sync for Timeblocking?

2018-09-05 Thread Damo Skees
I’ve been using SchedPal for a few weeks now - or trying to.

DIslikes: maybe it’s not my app choice, maybe it’s just me - I still find
myself overshooting the time slot deadlines and rescheduling tasks on a regular
basis.

LIkes: It does a really good job of quantifying and giving a reality check of
what you can do in a day. You have all your work tasks, you press the
“schedule” button, and then you see that not everything fits within the time
available, deadlines and due dates that you have. So you prioritise, or set
expectations. That takes a lot of cognitive load off me.

However - due to my human nature of pushing stuff back and pressing the
‘reschedule’ button, I was pondering on the difference between this, and the
manual scheduling nature of MLO with Gcal. I think I still like the SkedPal
approach because it does do the organising for me - and time spent in the tool
doing task organisation is a major issue (or lack of time, which then means the
tool becomes disorganised and you then lose trust in it).

It means I can trust the system - press the button, hit reschedule, if it flags
up anything that doesn’t fit, then I can drag stuff into my evening , push back
some due dates - and not worry about going through everything again to check
that it still all makes sense.

On the downside, as you say, it doesn’t prioritise dependencies before the
dependant task, and it also shows both tasks and sub tasks. So in a large
volume of tasks, that’s going to be a major stumbling book.

OTOH, I do keep coming back to GTD and next task in context in MLO. It is so
quick to use. It’s great on ‘next task’ action, it’s just frustratin that it
offers no ability to check everything fits in he schedule.

[MLO] Re: How to handle my roadblocks on MLO

2018-09-05 Thread Andrei Bacean
Hi
Regarding your first question. Here is a simple trick which i use.
All tasks which have to be done today/tomorrow/asap are marked with STAR.
Then in the starred view, i can rearange them. The tasks which require my
imediate attention i put to the top of the list.
When a new urgent task appears, i just add it in the starred view directly
to the top of the list.
(to do that: go to the starred view, select a task which is at the top of
the list, tap + button, enter the task name. save. your new task will have
the second position from top. just move it to become first. that's all).

[MLO] Re: Enter tasks using google assistant

2018-09-05 Thread devan
I found an solution which works fairly well.

Within IFTTT, you can use the applet "Google Home Create wunderlist item"

It allows you to create a text phrase that will send an email to wherever
you'd like. I use MLO cloud so I send the tasks to
privateem...@sync.mylifeorganized.net.

"ok google, add buy Delorean to inbox"

Response: Added buy Delorean to Wunderlist.

In a few minutes, and a cloud sync, it shows up in my MLO inbox.

[MLO] Enter tasks using google assistant

2018-09-05 Thread devan
This topic has been asked a few times but I couldn't find a current
solution.

I would like to ask my google device to enter a task destined to my MLO
inbox.

On my android 9 phone, the MLO widget works well but I'd like something I
could use hands free.

Any suggestions? I am pondering the use of IFTTT to create an applet to
send my task to my mlo email address but I have not programmed anything in
a very long time.

Thanks

[MLO] How to handle my roadblocks on MLO

2018-09-05 Thread Damo Skees
I love MLO, and keep coming back to it, whatever else I try, but wonder if
anyone has any tips on how to address my remaining process issues.

As a quick background, I only use the iPhone app as I moved from Windows to
MacOS. Most of my time is spent throwing tasks into the inbox from email triage
via the email parser, or via the pop-out Add to Inbox button.

Issues with short-term handling: As new urgent tasks come in, I don’t trust
MLO to help me fit them into my day. I think this is because if I quickly add
them to my inbox, i may not review and file tasks in my inbox on a busy day
until well after the task was due. Also, if I DO file it, I again am almost
certain it’ll disappear into a big backlog of overdue forgotten tasks, and
again, I won’t complete it in time. So how can I keep ‘new, current tasks’ in
view and still trust in GTD?

Issues with high-level view: I can’t really get a sense of the overall progress
and forecast effort of a project, or all my projects. Yes, I know there’s a
project type, and a progress bar, but that’s just for one project. I’d really
like to be able to look top-down at my work/life/personal development/admin
folders and see for my projects for the week/month/year, where I am and where I
have to go. I do also appreciate there are Goals, and I do use them and find
them effective, but only at a tactical level, not at a high-level
planning/accomplishment view.

No month-by-month goals: I do use goals, but it’s notable that the “month”
goal is only for the current month. I would love a way to view the monthly
goals for the previous and upcoming months - both for planning, and for
tracking/achievement. I’ve thought about using a mind map view with a parent
node per month in something like MindMeister/Meisertask, or Asana/Trello Kanban
boards, one per month. It’s like having 13 of the 43 folders - one per month.
As before, MLO is very tactically focused, and doesn’t have a top-down view.

Planned vs due date: I’m currently using SkedPal, and it does have a “plan for
today/tomorrow/etc” setting AS WELL AS due date. Many task managers do, these
days. So how do people do this in MLO?

Clunky date setting: I find that I can’t really use due dates proactively, such
as setting which day I will do the task on in order to use the calendar view in
the iPhone app for ‘loading’ each day, because it’s relatively slow and clunky
to set due dates (compared to many apps having a “defer until tomorrow/next
week/etc) quick button. I therefore find that if I did try setting due dates
for, say, 20 tasks, and the times start to blow out, I now have to spend time
going through each one of 20 tasks and manually try to move the date back to a
realistic timeframe, for every one of those tasks. Granted, it is easier to do
this visually with the Gcal sync, using the calendar to drag and drop - MUCH
easier, in fact - but it’s still an effort that’s increases with however many
tasks you have dates for, in each daily review. How do others handle this?
Many thanks,

Damo
