Forgot the root passwd on Mysql intalled on a windows machine

Hi Guys, I have forgotten the root password on mysql database installed on a windows machine, how can I reset this password. I have tried  un-installing and re-installing it but it still seems to be requesting for the password. Does anyone know a way out?
