2019-06-28 Thread Kevin A.
I've also purchased from vanna in the past. Managed to get some fine grid
IN-8s with solid pins (like regular socketable IN-8s) at a reasonable
price.

He does (or did) accept reasonable offers but his asking price is out of
control on this one. It's not even worth a quarter of what he's asking...

Not for 1200$ for one tube... maybe half that and even then it's a lot to
swallow for one tube. Actually I think the CD27 is rarer than the CD47 if
I'm not mistaken.

Paul the guy the seller mentioned in the post mentioned to me a few months
ago that a friend of his had a bunch of these tubes and that he would be
testing them for him. I had almost forgotten about it until this post came
up on the bay. The other three tubes I got this year were from two other
auctions and actually I think one cost more than this. How often do you
see B-8091's come up for sale? In some respects they're priceless because
you just can't really buy them often. I draw the line at some point
though... I want this tube too but it's just a bridge too
far:

2019-06-28 Thread Bill Notfaded
It'll all depend on whether after cutting some more out of the sides
whether I will be able to squeeze 6 tubes in there or not... I don't want
to move the handles really. I suppose I better get out the Digital Vernier
and check maybe this weekend...

Funny I found out the tech Paul the seller refers to is a friend of mine...
suffice it say the tubes are on their way to me at a reduced price now! I
have three others so it looks like it's finally time to build a 6 tube rack
mount clock! I found an old 9600 baud rack mount firebird like tester
thing for serial communications... I think it might make a nice starting
point it's called a INTERNATIONAL DATA SCIENCES TDM-MODEN TEST SET, MODEL
1310, RACK MOUNT.

Jens,

I don't personally care what he prices them at, I'm all for capitalism. (my
issue with the seller was how he verbally attacked me when I made him an
offer privately for all 25pcs before he put the listing on ebay) It was
really strange. I just wanted to inform potential buyers this guy is
volatile and was playing games.

Re: [neonixie-l] 8091 assembly

2019-06-28 Thread Alex
On the plus side, when people over speculate on items it makes it a good
opportunity to sell your own, if you have any to sell. Makes them look much
cheaper :-)

Having something for sale for a long time at a very high price makes it
harder to shift for a normal price later on, is my usual experience. I tend
to just plump for listing at about 25% more than I realisticly would expect
something to sell for and enable best offer and see what happens.

Money for old rope in those units though, he should for sure do it as an
auction, especially if he has 5 of the things?

Re: [neonixie-l] 8091 assembly

2019-06-28 Thread Dekatron42
The price is his to set at whatever level he wants but his way of treating
people is an altogether different thing. He hopes to get lucky when he adds up
all the information he has gathered on these quite rare Nixies and that’s ok
with me, there will probably be people with enough money ti buy thembut they
will also know to wait a while on a better price, but my personal experience
and what I’ve read on how he treated other people here means that I won’t buy
anything from him with my economy in mind - however if I win the lottery I
might change my mind! :)

[neonixie-l] Re: Mullard ZM1200 Pandicon available

2019-06-28 Thread Roddy Scott
EDIT - Philips bought out Mullard in 1928 but still marketed tubes under
the Mullard label - I should use Wikipedia more often! Valvo was a German
company - Valvo started as Radio-Roehren-Fabrik GmbH (RRF GmbH) in 1924 as
the vacuum tube manufactuing arm of C.H.F. Mueller GmbH which only produced
X-ray tubes. The company was renamed Valvo in 1926. Phillips bought C.H.F.
Mueller in 1927 and Valvo in 1932. The company was split in the 1980s and
sold in 1999.

[neonixie-l] Re: Mullard ZM1200 Pandicon available

2019-06-28 Thread Roddy Scott
While waiting on this to be delivered I have searched out what available
information I can find in regards to the ZM1200 Pandicon.

The developing company was Philips/Mullard consortium and it appeared
labelled by both and Valvo who were pointed out as also being in the same
consortium.

Finding data sheets from all 3 has not been a success as I can only find
those from Philips dated 1970 on Dieter Wachter's extensive listings, much
copied and displayed in other data sheet sites. There is also another data
sheet dated 1969 for the Philips version elsewhere that I just found. (edit)

The development version seemed to have been produced in quite a large
quantity at the time before the introduction of the production version with
the differences being the mesh patterns, square in the development one and
hexagonal in the production one. Development versions also had the label on
the back of the tube stating that it was a development sample and that
further supplies were not guaranteed.

Information from a collector states that the development versions had
serial numbers etched or stamped on the rear plate and on the photos he
posted the production version was white ink stamped with 'Philips ZM1200'.
The tube I posted initially has 'Mullard, ZM1200, Made in Holland' white
inked on the rear, I have seen a Valvo version with the white ink stamping
and also a Philips one with a printed label on the rear.
Examples of the smaller versions such as the ZM1206, has an 'Amperex, Made
in Holland' label (photo)
, while a ZM1202 has
Valvo ZM1202 white ink stamped on it as does a ZM1204. The Valvo stampings
can be seen here on Udo Radtke's
 collection.

The rarity of the ZM12xx series make it difficult to get accurate
information on them and any further info would be much appreciated.
