These particular ones include the backlight which is an incandescent bulb. They
are also the smallest I could find. There are slightly bigger ones that look
the same that you can take the back off, then you could stuff any kind of light
in there you like, assuming the display is translucent I guess.

You can also get LED backlit meters.

I couldn’t find a DC meter with a suitable scale, so I just bought the AC one
and put a suitable resistor in series. I had bought one of the bigger ones to
see how they make them into AC meters, and it is basically just a diode.

These kinds of meter are used in some tube amps for “adjusting the bias”, so
they are really specced for that purpose. On AliExpress you can get the bigger
ones with almost any spec you like.

is wired straight across the inputs (with a suitable resistor). It was a
safety feature when I was bread-boarding this thing. Now, when the clock
display is turned off, you can see power is still applied because that

2019-10-03 Thread martin martin
it's a nice little neon!
Question: Where did you get those cool tiny meters? I had thought to
install a small non-digital volt meter on one of my clocks.
Also, what did you use for a back-light?
